    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

I actually think that they will now support 2014 free Basic Rules, and - when and if a 2024 SRD comes out - they'll support that as well. The reason I think this is that Roll20 will definitely support both, and if DNDBeyond's VTTs (both Maps and Project Sigil) don't, then that's an obvious way...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

The outrage about how WotC/DNDBeyond is handling this is picking up steam. So much so that I wonder if they may reverse course, but from a technical standpoint I'm not sure there's time to do it before the 2024 PHB launches. They really do have an amazing capacity to shoot themselves in the...

I’m not saying WotC claimed that. People in this thread have claimed that, as a defense of WotC.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

FWIW, this issue will likely keep me on Roll20 instead of moving over to DNDBeyond's Maps, for the foreseeable future. That's a potential incentive.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

So Roll20 will offer exactly the functionality that is apparently just too technically difficult for DNDBeyond to implement. When creating a character, you can just choose whether you want to use 2014 or 2024 rules. Either will be fully supported.

    1. Your spells and weapons will automatically update. The following will also automatically update, but tbd how your character sheet will be affected: Armor Class Saving Throws Skills and Abilities Alignment Senses (Blindsight, Darkvision, Tremorsense, Truesight) Area of effect definitions 2...

We were already pretty salty by 2000 tbh.

I've been using it since launch. And you're bordering on the personal attack stuff tbh.

Weapon Mastery is easy to ignore. New spells and new class abilities automatically replacing the 2014 ones on your current character sheet is less so.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Oh, yeah, I know they've said that. When I've expressed skepticism about them following through on that pledge, I was told (on this board) that they would have to because DNDBeyond NEEDED the updated SRD to provide the updated free basic content, which of course isn't the case.

Oh they definitely will, because it's new and shiny. That doesn't mean the 2024 PHB and 2014 Monster Manual actually play well together.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Nope. Reading the post, they're not waiting for the SRD. If it was in the 2014 Basic Rules, you'll now get the 2024 version of it for free on DNDBeyond. EDIT: Never mind, I misread your post, sorry. (PS I'm not holding my breath for an updated SRD).

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

I would never willingly do that. 2024 characters are significantly stronger than 2014 characters, and 2014 monsters are no match for them.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

I have some issues with it that I recognize are "me" problems, but literally forcing a 6 month period where to use DNDBeyond you essentially must use the 2024 player rules in combination with the 2014 monster rules is objectively pretty stupid.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

This annoys me. I'm gonna have to learn and use the 2024 rules because I am a pro DM and players will expect it (which I get). But I personally am not convinced that the new rules represent a better game and am unsure whether I will really choose to use them given the option not to do so - and I...

Project Sigil Now You Can Watch WotC's 3D VTT 'Project Sigil' In Action!

I understand that for demo purposes it's more dynamic to show people using the new VTT while playing together at the table in the same physical space, but I think WotC knows that realistically almost nobody will actually do that - the target audience here has to be online players who are in...
