Project Sigil Now You Can Watch WotC's 3D VTT 'Project Sigil' In Action!

My first impression of this 3D VTT is that I don't really want it. I'm not seeing it do anything technically that Roll20 can't do; it's visually much prettier of course, but I feel like the juice isn't gonna be worth the squeeze if it has demanding system requirements and won't run in-browser...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best D&D 5e alternate ruleset?

Love Dungeon Crawl Classics and Level Up: A5E. Level Up feels very close to 5E but plugs a lot of “holes” by providing solid exploration rules and making combat more interesting for martials without getting bogged down in cumbersome mechanics. Some very fun subclasses as well, and GREAT magic...

Critical Role Is Critical Role Scripted

Wrenching the thread back on-topic for a moment. I've been part of an actual play podcast and YouTube show for nearly 4 years. Scripting is - I won't say an "accusation" that comes up a lot, but listeners and viewers do sometimes ask us if the show is scripted. Typical example in the comments...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase: How Is It?

I'm working my way through it (only own it on DNDBeyond). It seems very solid, Excellent maps, as mentioned above. Most of the adventures seem quite dungeon-crawly and combat-heavy, with relatively simple situations and NPCs by modern standards. The Infinite Staircase framing device is very...

    D&D 5E (2024) Standard vs Alternate covers (+)

They don't! They don't have to! Let go! Embrace the chaos! You know which covers are actually the better covers, and that means mixing them up! DO IT.

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

I also wouldn’t say “I am Burnside the Fighter, and my Sub-Class is Battle Master” in the context of a fantasy setting, but nobody seems upset about that. Obviously, some terms are utilitarian and logical to have in rulebooks even if they’re not used “in-game.” Species falls into that category...

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

Moving away from a term that has become loaded with generations of negative cultural context can be both a strategic move to maximize profit and also the right thing to do. The two are not always mutually exclusive.

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

Not really "successfully". Like most hybrid animals, ligers and tigons suffer from birth defects and shorter lifespans than their parents, and all male ligers and tigons are sterile. They exist only as a result of human cruelty. Like mules, they're not a viable, successful crossbreed of two...

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

But the term generally IS being applied to biology, not culture, in this context. I could have dwarven cultural heritage if I was a human raised by dwarves, but my species would be human.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I meant I don’t really know how you get those Feats, or who gets them (automatically?), or who CAN get them, or when. I also disagree that the Swords Bard’s flourishes go against what a Bard is “supposed to” be or do, because I think any such notions are entirely subjective.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Yes - I thought they'd go the BG3 route and make the flourishes applicable to ranged attacks. The Swords bard also got a Fighting Style, which I think the Valor Bard should have, but I'm not really 100% clear on how Fighting Styles will now work anyway.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I mostly meant that I expected them to replace Combat Inspiration (pretty bad) with the Sword bard's flourishes (pretty good).

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I'm surprised that the revised Valor Bard doesn't look more like the Swords bard, as the Swords bard always felt like an attempt to fix the Valor bard to me.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I have seen Lore bards grab Find Steed from the Paladin list, which was a pretty solid choice.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I agree? But it also seems like if Magical Discoveries really does work very differently from how bards now "prepare" the rest of their spells, he'd have mentioned that (also, there is no way that Lore Bard ability won't be bugged at launch on DNDBeyond if that is the case). I actually think...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Very unclear. The way he talked about Magical Secrets in the main Bard section of the vid, it seems like they now prepare spells daily. But the way he discussed Magical Discovery in the Lore Bard section, it seems like they are still spells known casters a la 2014.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Unclear from the video, but the way Crawford said it actually suggests that once they hit level 10, they get access to Druid, Cleric, AND Wizard spells from then on. It also now seems that bards will prepare spells on long rest, a la clerics, druids, and paladins (and now, rangers)?
