D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

This is what I like best about it it. The previous arrangement (early access only if you got the digital & physical bundle) disincentivized folks to buy the physical book from their FLGS. My preference is to get only the digital version on DNDBeyond and, if I want the physical book at all, to...

D&D 5E (2014) Trying to build a "five room pilgrimage"

I favor a structure where your number 2 is number 1, and anything important from number 1 will come up organically as you move forward. Good stories start in the middle.

D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The 2025 Monster Manual Alternate Cover!

I'm playing the game where they published a Player's Handbook in 2014 and next thing you know wham you turn around and they're publishing another one in 2024.

I know, right? You get one Players Handbook and then right away a mere decade later they make another one! Microtransactions! That's how they getcha.

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing Vecna: Eve of Ruin *SPOILERS*

Curse of Strahd (levels 3-9) fits rather neatly between Nest of the Eldritch Eye and Eve of Ruin, and has the virtue of including both Strahd and Mordenkainen.

    D&D 5E (2024) Alternate 2024 DMG Cover features Lolth!

That is conservatively one billion times better than the standard cover.

D&D General Are you aware that the New Edition (5.5 whatever) is a part of the 50th Anniversary of D&D?

I agree. The main reason I don't like it is because it's kind of a mess artistically. Same with the PHB. These same three characters in a different style I'd be fine with.

D&D General Are you aware that the New Edition (5.5 whatever) is a part of the 50th Anniversary of D&D?

I'm Gen X, and I'm a little taken aback by the heavy emphasis on the cartoon characters, as I really don't consider that cartoon to have much to do at all with the D&D game. It was a popular children's cartoon from 1983-85. It came and went. 95% of the characters in it never really appeared...

    D&D 5E (2024) Not enough DMs / new edition

Does anybody know if Passive checks are still a thing in the new books? Because in my experience they’re nice in theory but don’t really work at the table. I feel like they’re better suited to CRPGs than TTRPGs, at least as written.

D&D General When did you leave D&D? Why? For what game? And what brought you back?

The Mines of Moria sequence in Fellowship of the Ring was a huge inspiration for dungeon crawling in D&D. Gary's insistence that "only a minute" trace of Tolkein is in D&D is laughable on the face of it, and clearly one of many things he said along those lines not because they were true, but to...

D&D General When did you leave D&D? Why? For what game? And what brought you back?

I left D&D when I left for college in 1994, not because I didn't like it but simply because my priorities and commitments changed. If online play was more of a thing during my college years (mid-late 90s) then I might have kept playing to an extent, but I'm not sure. In my post-college years my...

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Alternate Art Cover Reveal

I certainly like this one better, but I don’t love it. I enjoy the colors and the border designs, but the image is a little boring. It’s not a mess like the standard cover though. Will definitely be getting this one. Edit: my initial reaction was too negative. The more I look at this one, the...
