    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

FR is the first one in 5E to get that treatment. Is it "proven"? Hmm, I am not sure "the setting is irrelevant" is a well supported argument.

That feel like a big bet for a setting that is not proven in the current marketplace.

    Modiphius 2d20 System Opinions?

Cortex is one of those systems that when people talk about it, my interest is piqued, but I have no desire to build a game from scratch using it. Maybe one day i will play it at a con, or find one of the games that used it as a core (there was a Marvel one I think, as well as Smallville and...

What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

That is me with Big Fat Fantasy series in general. I gave WoT a honest go, then ASoIaF, and finally Stormlight. NOPE.

I forgot this existed, and I even have it saved for alerts.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

I would be surprised if they went that route out the gate, but we'll see.

Mostly because neither of those games plays fast enough, and don't have a loot system that would emulate Diablo. It would be a hard problem to solve, given you are trying to combine granularity and ease of use at the table, but I don't think it is an insurmountable design challenge.

What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

Everyone has their preferences and limits. Is there a genre, medium or other form of geek media that you just don't do? For me, it is LitRPG. Nope. I love Portal Fantasy, and Guardians of the Flame (a portal fantasy where they traveled to the world of the game they played) was foundational for...

    Modiphius 2d20 System Opinions?

One thing I find interesting in TTRPG fandom is how there are certain games that have a very strong hold on its fans, and they want to use that for everything. Cortex seems to be one of those games. those that like it really seem to believe it can and should be used for nearly everything. I'm...

    Crows Officially Announced by MCDM

Dungeon crawlers have existed throughout the whole life of the hobby. OSR dungeon exploration is one particular flavor of that, but it is hardly the only one. The whole "avoid combat or you'll LOSE!" paradigm is beyond played out. Give me a hack and slash dungeon crawler, a tabletop Diablo.

    Crows Officially Announced by MCDM

I find it weird that we have to shove any game in which there is dungeon crawling into the *SR paradigm. Can't a game just be a dungeon crawler?

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Let's assume that Dark Sun is coming. What quarter would that drop in? And, do you think it will be a Big Fat Setting Book, or do you think it will be a Slipcase Adventure/Setting?

Friday Worldbuilding Fun: Supers Appear in Different Eras and/or Settings

Traditionally, due to the origins of superhero comics in the real world, supers appear in their setting around or during World War 2. Sometimes it is a little earlier (WW1) or later (the Atomic Age) but most superhero RPG settings have them appear in the early to mid 20th century. I think it...

    Modiphius 2d20 System Opinions?

I had not considered that aspect. While I have never seen DH get bogged down the way you describe, I understand where you are coming from. Thanks for the detailed reply.

Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

You can decide a thing is not for you based on reviews etc, but you can't actually judge its quality without engaging with it.

How Complex Do You Prefer Your TTRPG Systems In General

FWIW, there is nothing inherent in Daggerheart that makes it substantially better face to face rather than remote/VTT, other than the usual "face to face games are better."

So we are at that stage where anything that is a dungeon crawler is a "Shadowdark clone"?
