3 Magic Feats: Magical Weapon, Magic Manipulation, & Cantrip Master

Would you take these feats? How would you improve/balance them? Magical Weapon Prerequisite: The ability to cast at least one spell When you create a magical effect that targets another creature, a magical weapon appears in your hand. If your target is within 5 feet of you, it looks like a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master vs. Hex/Hunter's Mark

Inspired by the recent Feats threads, I am working on my own list heavily inspired by the others. Two of the feats some consider too strong are Sharpshooter and Great Weapon Master with their -5/+10 features. To replace this feature, I have thought of something like this: Great Weapon Master -...

    D&D 5E (2014) Charisma- Good ability ... or OMNIVOROUS DESTROYER OF D&D?

Perhaps the easiest modification would be to roll Intelligence into Wisdom. This would have almost zero effect on saves. Only Wizards would be clearly changed, though 1/3 caster Fighters and Rogues would see a change. Int skills would become Wis skills: religion should be anyway, and probably...

    Revised Ranger Druid build

I'm building a new character. I like being a full spellcaster, I like archery, and I like the idea of having a beast companion. My primary hesitation about Wild Shape is that you can't cast spells (until high level), and I like casting spells. I have not played Druid or Ranger before. What are...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

Here's another version. I'm playing with alternatives to the -5/+10. Sharpshooter - Attacking at long range doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged weapon attack rolls. - Your ranged weapon attacks ignore half and three-quarters cover. - Sniper Shot: At the start of your turn you may expend...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

I modified my wording of these two feats. What do you think? Short Range Expert - You ignore the loading quality of ranged weapons (except firearms) with which you are proficient. - Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attacks. - You may use...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

Thanks! :D Isn't that the purpose of point 1, ignoring the loading property of crossbows? All of these archetypes work just fine with that ability under this feat. Or d10 + 15 with a heavy crossbow. But this thread is also changing SS, which I think is the real problem in this situation...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

Yeah, you are right. That's not what I was going for. Limiting it only to be able to shoot a two-handed ranged weapon while holding a shield is better. My intention was to make it easier for a range-focused character to escape melee. My intention is definitely against improving kiting however...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

Yes, but this covers the underused Blowgun as well. :-P Shields could be worn strapped to an arm: you couldn't wield a sword with that arm, but you could use that hand to help fire a bow or add extra power to a two-handed weapon, especially a versatile one. This is the thought I was getting at...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

What do you think of this Crossbow Expert alternative? It's probably too powerful. My intent was to keep the more widely applicable parts of Crossbow Expert and expand it to make it useful to many more characters. Notice benefits for two-handed weapon users and casters. Close Attacker - You...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

I get that you are trying to nerf ranged attacks, but I don't think that making this feat so extremely specific is the way to do it. The intent of the designers was clearly to extend these benefits to all characters, not just a very select few. Does this feat actually make range overpowered...

    D&D 5E (2014) Refined PHB feat revisions

I feel like this makes Mage Slayer too powerful still. Mages tend to have low AC as it is, and this makes them extremely vulnerable. Attack bonus is fairly easy to buff as well, which means enemy mages will have a very tough time if anyone gets near them. But I like what you are getting at...

D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide to Everything: What subclasses made the cut?

I know that there were dislikes on the Lore Master, and that there is supposed to only be one Wizard subclass, but I'm really hoping for both Theurgy and Lore Master. I really like the idea of the Int-based Cleric-Wizard hybrid. I am currently playing the Lore Master, and it is lots of fun, very...

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB Feats taken - RESULTS

I'm glad you agree! :-) That is a concern. There is precedent to giving permanent advantage: Deep Gnomes, for example, have permanent advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks in rocky terrain, which is easy to find. Gaining Expertise is still rather limited to Bards and Rogues, so the combo...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

Cool! Can you lay out your design goals again? It seems odd that you are ok with minor wording tweaks that severely effect feat power, but you aren't wanting to replace things with different abilities. I noticed this in your other thread, too, where you were hesitant to introduce wording from UA...

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB Feats taken - RESULTS

What do you think of replacing Expertise with Advantage? This wouldn't step on the Rogue's toes at all, and would even be a further benefit on top of the Rogue's Expertise. In the ASI option, the intent is to balance everything against a full +2 ASI anyway. Allowing a +1 pick retains half-feats...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

Melee Ranger - You ignore the loading quality of ranged weapons with which you are proficient. - Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your attacks. - In addition to melee weapons, you may use one-handed ranged weapons when two-weapon fighting. - You learn to...

D&D 5E (2014) Revised Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter - now with Homebrewery attachment

But isn't this really the main point of the feat? With this change it should be renamed "Hand Crossbow Expert". The developers have specifically stated that their intent was to make this feat applicable to other builds as well, such as casters. This change removes that, and more, completely. I...
