D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

I'm all for flavorful RP. What I don't like is that there is an incentive of the DM, namely one of the players around the table; and then the PC (a character) receives a reward in the form of a bonus for another action, simply because the RP by another player was consistent with the PC's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Player fudging: Destiny Points

Good feedback all around! From what I'm reading, I'm tempted to: - limit use of destiny points to one per session per player/PC (to avoid Li Shenron's stated problem of unleashing hoarded destiny points in a single situation); and a total of 3 per level appears to limit the overall usage -...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

This is too meta for my taste. I prefer freeform storytelling. There's enough meta in battles already, I'd prefer not to include any in the RP.

    D&D 5E (2014) Player fudging: Destiny Points

Okay. I'll consider doing just that if I do end up including such a mechanic.

How would you rate or qualify the experience? Any comments with respect to the praise and the limits mentioned by Nagol in his post previous to yours?

    D&D 5E (2014) Player fudging: Destiny Points

If the use of destiny points or hero points was associated to a specific resource that the PC has, such as for example "call upon divine favor" for the cleric; would you then have more ease in accepting them?

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

Ok. I'm with you I guess. I think that inspiration is not necessary to get players to RP and I don't like rewards being associated to that. That's just me. I agree that the downside can be avoided; I just don't see the upside to it.

I'm curious, Tony Vargas, what you mean by this. I have an idea of what you might mean, but would you care to expand a bit? Ya.

    D&D 5E (2014) Player fudging: Destiny Points

Who uses hero points, destiny points or any other type of player controlled resource? (Apart from Inpiration)

    D&D 5E (2014) Player fudging: Destiny Points

Good point Iserith, I had forgotten all about that optional rule. Re-reading the rule, I note that the DMG hero points can be spent to change a failed death save into a success. Perhaps this would be an interesting rule; simpler, less powerful certainly than what I propose. Who has used it?

    D&D 5E (2014) Player fudging: Destiny Points

From the Do You Want Your DM to Fudge thread, Hussar provided the suggestion that moving the possibility of fudging into the players' hands with mechanics such as Bennies or Fate points, taken from other well-known RPGs, allows the players to avoid desastrous fates for their PCs. I think this...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

This is a great suggestion and it's very appropriate within the discucssion of this thread. I don't use inspiration (my players are already inspired enough as it is ;) ), but I'm now thinking about introducing destiny points into my game. I'll fork a thread on this topic. Thanks for this...

D&D 5E (2014) Hypothetical Campaign: No ASIs, Only Feats.

That's what I do. I like it. Except that it's 6 x 3d6 in order, and increase one stat to 14 (no switch).

D&D 5E (2014) Fudging: DM vs player preferences

I'm not in favor of fudging (I prefer to say it that way instead of saying I'm an anti-fudger, which I don't believe I am); and I like the idea of the red flag rule. However, in D&D in particular, I think that the possibility of PC death is a rare element that forces the players (not the PCs) to...

D&D 5E (2014) Fudging: DM vs player preferences

What personal bias would that be? The numbers say that a majority (i.e. more than 50%) of players accept some measure of fudging. "Almost never" means, sometimes, but very rarely. So it's a "yes, but rarely". This is not aligned with my own preferences. I'm a "No, never" guy, both as DM and...

D&D 5E (2014) Fudging: DM vs player preferences

This question is obviously biased towards an answer by providng "to keep the game moving and enhance the story" in the question. If you want people to answer the way you do, your question indeed appears appropriate :) I was not the author of the first question and my own question in the second...

D&D 5E (2014) Fudging: DM vs player preferences

Yes, like i mentioned, I am also against fudging. Still, I think that if D&D or other RPGs were taken as a strategy board game, where "fudging" is called cheating and simply does not exist, I believe that the answers would be very different. In such games, the ruleset primes over any "story"...

Indeed. Even if the responders were totally different however, it's still an interesting result.

D&D 5E (2014) Fudging: DM vs player preferences

From the Do you fudge thread and the Do you want your DM to fudge thread, we get the following results as of today, rounded: Do you fudge: yes: 40% almost never: 40% no, never: 20% Do you want your DM to fudge: yes: 25% almost never 35% no, never: 40% This is pretty darn interesting. I'll...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

OP here. Um, you guys are kinda over-arguing this, don't you think? ;) Well, if you're having fun, why not. But... are you? :) What everyone thinks fudging is and what it means in the grand universal scheme of things is kinda overthinking things in my very humble opinion. Like BB King said...
