Pathfinder 2E Release Day Second Edition Amazon Sales Rank

I don't know if that is really true. We just see the wild swings in the 2000+ numbers. In terms of meatspace enthusiasm, I still don't see it. The game is young and we have been here before. As to delighting BOTH PF1 and PF2 fans, it is an interesting thought. But they would need to...

Pathfinder 2E Release Day Second Edition Amazon Sales Rank

Why would it grow later? Certainly unknown brands that make it have an awareness arc. But Pathfinder is a completely well-known brand. Even other big names with a loyal fanbase (say Warhammer FRPG) decline after six months to a year. They continue to enjoy support from their core fans. It...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

Essentials was an interesting time. There were absolutely people who saw it as a "course correction" as you describe. But there were also people who saw it as hopeless flailing and other still who saw it as pointless knee-jerk reaction to a vocal minority.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

That is not at all true. There we debates and debates on these very websites over whether or not all the data showing PF as #1 were valid or not. It was only after 5E was announced that those debates became moot and went away.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

Shrug The ship has sailed. We can use soft words like "a lot", but the fact is that the number of people playing "D&D" plummeted over the course of 4E. Not at all in an instant, and certainly not in the first six months. But it took a nosedive in player base and it recovered to levels unseen...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

Agreed . That is my point. That and it having sold well at the start is not a revelation.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

Heh. I'd offer the pertinent fact is that this really doesn't tell us anything new. We know the CRB sold like gangbusters at release. But the question is: "what did people then think and how will their opinions evolve over the next year or two?". 4E made Mearls a NYT Bestselling author. :)

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

No No No. You are all looking at it wrong. Wrong Wrong Wrong. It is not Hasbro or WotC. It is Stranger Things or D&D. This is a Stranger Things product, which has a D&D tie-in. It is not a D&D product with a Stranger Things tie-in. You are Welcome.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

Interesting data, but hard to see what new info we get here. Clearly the CRB is #1, but no surprise there. Good news that bestiary is #2 because we hadn't seen much clarity on where that cover stood. If you look at units sold: 1) PH2E CRB 2) Tal Dorei campaign setting 3) PF2E Best 4) My...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

I think 5E is the most readily "house-ruleable" version of D&D. And, really, they are all very easy to modify. But 5E feels almost like it has perforations and notched edges. It wants to be customized. It is the lego set of D&D. And I mean that in a 100% good way.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

Heh So it seems that we agree on pretty much everything except our taste in game. And we absolutely disagree there. So, to be blunt, I don't see any baby to save in 4E. (No offense) I've never played 13th Age, but I have read it. It seems to take everything about 4E and go off the deep...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

There is truth in that. When I switched a campaign from 5E to PF one of my players literally said "it doesn't matter, its all just 'Bryon D20'." And he meant that in a good way. My 5E game was very house ruled back toward PF and/or shared the same house rules that I use when I run PF. And I...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

I think there is a lot interesting here. We are both people who play something other than 5E, but for different reasons. But clearly 5E is huge (like mind-bogglingly so) despite us..... :) To start with a purely personal opinion statement: I'd remove the word "backpedaling" and replace...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

That is true. But it matters why any two games are similar. And it also matters why any two games are not alike. To me, the way healing surges were baked into the game was a fatal flaw in 4E. I could house rule around it, but they were so fundamental to the game that by the time you worked...

I can so understand that feeling.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

I still strongly believe that they were way overly influenced by ten years of listening to the vocal minority complain about the flaws in 1E. I'm not at all claiming there were not flaws or areas for improvement (or even just catching up to the times, which is a very apt phrase). But they...

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

I did mean to deny it. :). I'm a little surprised at the conversation, but it is truly a trivial point. As much as I'm willing to complain about flaws in PF2E, I'm not at all trying to make that claim here. To the contrary, my point is that this issue is completely neither here nor there...

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

I think you missed my point. If the monsters are more dangerous relative to the party then you can simply change the CR of the monster. How or why one monster is more dangerous than another isn't important if the CRs are "right". And "right" is a completely relative term. In one game a CR =...

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

I don't agree that this is a credit to PF2E. In 5E or PF1E, or pretty much any system you can easily throw dangerous encounters at a party. If you went through the 5E monster manual and subtracted 1 from the CR of every creature, they would not be any more dangerous. The metric for how to...

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

I am very interested to see their take. But I'm really not holding my breath. Despite popular assumptions, I did try a lot to find a way to like PF2E. Removing +level is one thing, removing +level and accounting for the "baked in" thing is quite another, achieving that accounting for "baked...
