It's definitely up there, yeah. So is the 3 Up 3 Down. I'm just saying make it core. As far as DDB goes, yeah, that'd suck. But this would be a 6th edition, and therefore need it's own autoroller website! (Or not, if you wanna just check the rolled value and add in the missing damage if there...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

In any setting where XP is granted by killing goblins or accomplishing goals, every Wizard School will have a headmaster who passes out daggers and staves and says "RIGHT! If you want to learn magic we need to go kill some goblins." "But Master, shouldn't we study magic?" "HAH! No. You'll...

'Nother few ideas... 1) Less Heritages/Races Yeeeah I get it. People like having a lot of variety in their heritages. But I find it mostly winds up in making the game a neverending cavalcade of animalfolks with a few planar entries along the way. And since every heritage has their own unique...

Here's the Wolfkin Outcast link. All the links lead to different pages and sometimes websites containing MtG Artwork.

LaserLlama doesn't sell his work 'cause he can't. All his artwork is stolen from Magic Cards and stuff. Which is a -damn- shame. Because his work is kinda great.

Oh, for sure, this would slow things a bit by rolling NPC damage... but I also intend to rein NPC damage in pretty significantly to avoid that kinda thing. And it definitely incentivizes negating enemy critical hits.

So... further thoughts. 1) Crits as Maxed Damage Values When you crit, you max out the damage of your attack, then roll it a second time and add that on top. This ensures that crits are meaningful and strong. No more rolling minimum damage on a critical hit. It also makes sacrificing gear to be...

I also love that his Circle of the Moon option still gets greater wild shape options... But pays for it. You get the Wild Shape surge option for free (or if you have it, pick another) and then to do CR 1 or higher beasts you spend spell slots. On the one hand, this is a brilliant way to add...

Primal Surge, firstly. Rather than gaining Wild Shape they get a battery of choices, and Wild Shape is just one of those choices. That, alone, catapults this into the top position for my favorite Druid since 2nd Edition AD&D. You even get two choices right away and can trade them whenever you...

Right now it's designing because my brain got stuck on an idea at 3am and acted like a disobedient puppy, endlessly savaging the idea while I yell "Put it down!"

Nutty thought: Hit Dice by Size. Tiny d4 Small d6 Medium d8 Large d10 Huge d12 Gnome Barbarians would haaaaate that. I'd have to do the added HP based on classes. +0 for Sor/Wiz, +1 for Artificer, Bard/Cleric/Druid/Monk, +2 for Fighter/Marshal/Paladin, +4 for Barbarian.

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

"Bulletproof" as a word comes from armor-proving. Something blacksmiths had been doing for -centuries- by shooting crossbows, arrows, or swinging swords at armor plates. Starting in the mid 1300s, Blacksmiths would test armor plates by firing hand cannons at them from middling ranges. These bad...

Ehhh... Monster HP will be scaled down just like player HP will be. The point is that one Meteor Swarm isn't going to wipe out a PC or a Dragon, even with a 9th level spell slot, as a one-shot impact. As far as those, yeah. Specifically as class features with limited options between them to...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

Yeah, it is... but that's why those spells are Class Abilities rather than Spells. The goal, there, is for spells to be a fairly clean progression of combat effects with the class using a different kind of noncombat magic for other purposes.

@Horwath Current thoughts on attack differentiation: Fighters just straight up get 4 attacks on any targets with no limitations. Marshal gets 3 attacks, but the ability to give other players some of their attacks, increasing tactical utility. Rangers get 3-4, and are incentivized to burn more...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

After thinking on it more... yeah. Barbarians get Cleave at 3rd. If they hit a target with their attack, they get to make a follow up on a nearby target. At 5th they get extra attack, which gives them two attacks and a second shot at Cleave. At 8th they get Great Cleave. Now they no longer...

Gradine's modularity was about class abilities/multiclassing. Modularity of abilities between classes so you can mix n' match to make your perfect class. I guess I could? My intent was to give a scaling spell progression so at 2nd you have two first level and one second level spell. Then at 3...
