Let's talk about "plot", "story", and "play to find out."

500 people attended the first flat earth conference. Having others believe what you believe doesn't make it the belief correct.

Different iterations of the same game. And it's not just RPGs. Windows 11 is very different from Windows 95, yet they are all called Windows.

There's not enough money to make it worthwhile, and they might even lose money supporting prior editions. Far better to open those editions up to the 3rd party space.

Less does not equate to dead, so there's no exclusion going on. And third party stuff is pretty plentiful, so it's not even long-term home care. It's hiring a bunch of people to provide in-home care for you. :p

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

Yes. Most folks, though, don't opt to stop. They have buy-in to the linear adventure. The key is that you CAN get off, not that you will. You cannot get off of a railroad and by definition have no buy-in for it since it requires the DM to force players down the line against their wishes.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

And over in 30 seconds. I'd hate to be on a roller coaster for as many hours as I play D&D. :p

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

You get get off of a linear adventure. If in the middle of a linear adventure the party decides to teleport to Baldur's Gate for 3 days of R&R during a festival, they can do that. Hell, they can decide not to even go back. You can't get off of a railroad. You are forced down the line.

Let's talk about "plot", "story", and "play to find out."

No choice was made for them. If I build robot horses for people to buy and ride, but you dislike horses, I did not exclude you. You get to decide if you like the horse and make the choice not to get it. Same with playing 4e for @Micah Sweet. At any time he can unmake his choice and play it...

If he suspended all discussions, then you could not post about them and it would actually be exclusion. To continue the metaphor people are complaining that they are being excluded from threads that they can post in and read, but dislike and don't want to. That's not exclusion. To argue that...

Homebrew Do people in your game world put cheese on their apple pies??

I've never seen apple pie with cheese here in Southern California, and I've been here for 43 years. It's probably fairly rare here.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

No. It's linear. What makes it a railroad or not is if it's forced on the players no matter what they might wish. If they opt in, it's not a railroad, because they exercised agency to get in that line. I really don't know where you got illusionism from, but no.

    D&D General Tools for PCs?

I agree with all of that. I'm just not as confident as you are that the it won't happen in the future. I'm certainly not going to boycott WotC for a Hasbro deal.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

In my experience it gets found out eventually.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

That's still not a railroad. If you fail at something you can get into hot water, which can include being trapped. That's not a railroad. The group chose to go to White Plume Mountain. They chose to keep exploring. Their choices brought them to the puzzle where they failed and got stuck. A...

    D&D General Tools for PCs?

I'm not as confident about that as you are. Even through they made that announcement, Hasbro likes money ---> MtG is the cash cow ---> Harry Potter has lots and lot and lots of fans who would buy the cards. Many corporations have gone back on announcements in the name of the buck.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

No it's not. It's far from okay to make my play experience meaningless through illusionism. I will generally catch on eventually and then I get really angry, because the DM wasted a huge amount of my time.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

It's still not a railroad if it's the only way to progress. It's a DM mistake. The players aren't being forced anywhere. They've simply failed to find what was gated behind the puzzle or secret door. When I was still in high school I learned that the hard way and put the thing the group...
