D&D 5E (2014) RE: Tarasque vs. 5th lv. Wizard scenario - how does Wizard know to use Acid Splash?!?

lets look at the Storm Giant... they have a 29 Str and can throw a rock for 4d12+9.......... so the Tarrasque should be able to pick up and throw a structure that deals, at least, 4d12+10 btw, the Storm Giant is Huge.. the Tarrasuqe is Gargantuan, so if we use pure strength lift capacity...

Just looked it up.... A 500 sq foot 1 story house.... all brick (red clay) would weight 12,000 lbs in brick alone (not including foundation) To give you some scale

Believe it or not an average log cabin would be about 3 tons in weight (without furniture) ...yes I looked it up Average log is surprisingly only 50 to 60 or so lbs... (Talking American Pine) With a normal 1 room cabin taking up 40 to 50 logs Now use wood frame and planks with wood planks...

Umm, you DON'T NEED to stat out every little thing the monster can do... that way leads to madness Siege Monster + 30 Strength = throw a building or boulders

    D&D 5E (2014) Rethinking Attributes

Einlanzer there is a component you are not taking into consideration.... D&D Attributes are iconic, their use (Dude that guy as a 18 charisma!) has permeated into popular culture. just like Hit Points and Armor Class these things can't be changed without changing the heart of the game.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

As i said before.... play a champion with JUST heavy armor mastery (not a "choice" feat.. its always on, minimal "thinking" required and the Shield Mastery Feat... always an option, can use any time, no limit on uses) and then play one without those feats... its a night and day difference in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

not at all... wizards will find stuff along the way.. and again, any wizard worth his salt has a extra spell book or two stashed in safe places... in my last home game I had a habit of always leaving a backup spellbook at the nearest temple of my god, with a small donation (my character...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

except the wizard is not.. any spells he has in his head prepared stay prepared until they swap them out... so if they have the right spells set up, getting their copy of the spell book is not all that hard. never mind the fact they still have cantrips (which = basic attacks) lets also look...

Any wizard without a back-up (or two) placed in safe places is not worth their salt

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

Except last time I checked a wizard can cast ritual spells from their spellbook, which opens up all kinds of options... while keeping spell slots free

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

I don't want them to have "powers" per say.. but I like the options fighters can gain through feats Shield Mastery, Sentinel, and Heavy Armor Mastery for example when you strip away feats all the other classes have cool things to fall upon, they don't need them fighters get more stat boosts...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

and oddly it's the same people that bitch at the table when the wizard, paladin, or ranger pulls off something amazing with those bits "wait how can he do that?" I had heard that at so many cons back in the (early) 3.0 days it was not even funny anymore.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

you have to take a sub class... but the champion is the "basic fighter" one no frills.. very easy to play they get things like extended crit range with any weapon and an extra fighting style its the fighter in the basic D&D rules

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

Fighter (Champion) no feats... or a mix of melee/ranged feats (best option I think)

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighters are amazing!

I would suggest a middle ground for fighters and feats.... read the feats and come up with a list of "approved fighter only feats" and see how it plays out.... in all honesty after playing with a fighter with feats and one without.... no feats hurts the fighter more then any other class...
