This is all excellent advice which leads me to ask, do you or anyone else know of a supplement (print or PDF) that discusses the theoreticals of designing a sandbox. One that goes beyond what your bullet-point blog post you linked to earlier. Or is it really this easy to do?

Is there any special reason why there are a large assortment of threads that are related to a 4e specific problem allowed in the General Forum?

I wonder what would happen if a forum for EWTs opened up over at CM?

In an nutshell, I don't think that the 3e design team approached the game believing that balance was the holy grail of fun game play, YMMV.
