D&D 5E (2014) Walking Town Ya or Na?

Why not? Seems pretty cool thematically. My players have just found a nomadic city state that follows a titan around a desert because its steps cause crops and trees to come out of the ground.

    D&D 5E (2014) TIME STOP SPELL (9º)

I'm sorry, but the semantics of "I target you with this fireball spell" and "I shoot this fireball spell at the square next to you so that it will hit you" is silly. In both cases you're "targeting" the enemy, but in one you're doing it with the outer edge and the other you're doing it with the...

    D&D 5E (2014) TIME STOP SPELL (9º)

I always thought that there wasn't any way to attack people with Time Stop in any edition. In fact, reading the Pathfinder one, it specifically says you can't target anyone with an attack or a spell. I believe it was the same way in 3.5 and 3.0, so casting delayed blast fireball wouldn't...

    Rebalancing Feats

Just a quick question, how do you find an ability score increase to be vastly better but then say feats are more flavorful and more mechanically interesting? There's a lot of power in something being cooler than something else, and I haven't found the feats to be that weak in any of my playing...

D&D 5E (2014) Create or Destroy Water spell ruling

You would just destroy the water you just poured in there? If the purpose was to kill them, wouldn't the stab in the gut be effective enough?

    D&D 5E (2014) TIME STOP SPELL (9º)

The more I read these boards, the more it seems that people only focus on the combat aspect of D&D.

D&D 5E (2014) The Wonkiness of Tool Proficiency

Wow I never thought of it that way, but that's the best way to actually put it. The only reason they even have the skill list is likely because of the "out of sight, out of mind" trope where someone didn't know they could do something because it wasn't ontheir character sheet. The reason they...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Ranger

Everything. AC, Attack bonus, damage, saving throws, skills all add Rangers proficiency bonus. Health is quadruple the Rangers level, so about that of a rogue. They also gain more abilities to use as a bonus action.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Ranger

I think people automatically assume that the beasts are going to be weaker than them, when in many cases they're just as, or more powerful.

D&D 5E (2014) The Wonkiness of Tool Proficiency

There isn't much of an overlap there though. If you pick proficiency in Musical Instrument, you can add your proficiency to any check made with that instrument, but you must have the instrument on hand. Perform is for when you don't have the instrument on hand, and is done only with what you can...

D&D 5E (2014) The Wonkiness of Tool Proficiency

Kamikaze Midget basically said exactly what I came here to say, but I'll sum up in just a few words: Skills are something anyone can try to use, tools require a specific object to do them. That's it, that's the entire rule. There's no disadvantage anywhere, there's no adding weird skills into...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Ranger

I've already written far, far too much about this. Go ahead and look up other threads, but as a tl;dr: no, the ranger is not really that lame.

D&D 5E (2014) Anybody actually TRY soloing the Tarasque...?

Why would they bother casting fly when they could just use a magic carpet?

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

I agree with the sentiments of others in this thread. Why are you expecting to do as much damage as the fighters when you didn't pick a school designed for damage dealing? The beauty of wizards is that they get to do a whole bunch of stuff, not just do damage, which is essentially all fighters...

Holy head of Vecna that is some excellent work there.

    D&D 5E (2014) War Caster Confusion

Nope, that only replaces the material component. The somatic component requires the use of at least one hand.

D&D 5E (2014) How easy are skill checks?

In the "Noticing Threats" section of the Players Handbook on page 182, it states "The DM might decide that a threat can be noticed only by characters in a particular rank." It's unlikely that you'll have more than one person with a very high passive perception, and the person with the highest...

D&D 5E (2014) DMG excerpt: random magic item tables

Looks pretty good to me. Seems like these might be split up into a "rarity by table" sort of thing, with the increasing strength of potions and the like. I actually find it nice that they have all of the really nice permanent items up in the 90+ section, which hearkens back to how it was in AD&D...

    D&D 5E (2014) Evasive Footwork???

It's just a gaming conceit. If we all sat here and tried to make sense of the myriad of weird things in tabletop games, we'd be here for years.
