    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Except in reality what you would have is one of two things: A blank list like in 3.5 Skills Perception Acrobatics Tools: ____________ _________________ __________________ __________________ Lock picking Healing kit (not sure why this is here anyway, did you mash it with medicine?) This is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Well the other option would be to have another few skills, lock picking, crafting, forgery, disguise, perform (instrument), etc. But then you clog up people's skill lists with skills they will never actually use, and in some cases, can never use, getting to the problem that 3.5 had where there...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Hmm, good point. I suppose the divider instead is under the "tools" section rather than under the "equipment" section? I still don't think this is as bad as people are making it out to be. If you read the book through, without any knowledge of previous editions (which may be causing some of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Kits are what people use when they don't have proficiency in certain checks. You can climb without a climbers kit and heal without a healer's kit, they just make it easier for someone without the skill. They even make the distinction in the name of the object itself, kit vs tool. I'd say they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

I can see where that might be confusing RAW, but I feel like if creatures are brightly lit by a torch, you're in dim light, not darkness. But you're correct, they don't make any distinction between a person inside darkness looking at someone with a bright light, and someone within total darkness...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

You can't make potions of healing with Nature or survival. There is no "climbing kit" so not sure where you're getting that. In fact, all of the tools that you get to add your proficiency bonus to are not subsumed in a skill. Deception doesn't cover disguises or forgeries, only actions you can...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

My apologies, I was confusing it with the herbalism kit, which allows you to make potions of healing. By RAW anyone can use a healer's kit, which seems to be more like a defibrillator than anything else. To fix my earlier analogy, a doctor (someone with the medicine skill) knows what remedies...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

A doctor is someone who knows medicine in general. They know anatomy and physiology, they know how everything works with each other, they may know basic remedies on how to fix things wrong with the body. But they don't know how to operate an EKG machine, or an ultrasound, or any specific piece...

I'm confused, how is this a problem?

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

People have made the distinction between being a doctor and being an EMT in regards to the Medicine skill and healing kits. With one, you know all of the details that go into medicine, but you rarely know how to work the specific devices with it. In the other, you know how to do one specific...

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary, Lair, and BOSS Actions

I too don't see the necessity of giving a lesser big bad that kind of thing. For me, the interesting thing about bosses isn't really what they are, but where they are and who they have with them. That seems to be the crux of 5e is making monsters simple and easy to run so that you can vary their...

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary, Lair, and BOSS Actions

How is that any better? That actually seems even more incongruous to me than giving them three free saves. And besides, all of these creatures are high enough level that the wizard or magic user is going to have far more than just 3 spells to throw at them. The whole reason we switched back from...

D&D 5E (2014) How does Conjure Elemental work with higher slots?

Why would you doubt that? It's not like when you summon fey creatures it's tied to only those named "Fey", or when you summon an animal it's only for those beasts named "Animal". It's meant to be the type not the name, of which there are a good amount of elementals to choose from.

D&D 5E (2014) How does Conjure Elemental work with higher slots?

That is exactly how it's meant. I was wondering about that when smaller elementals came up, but it seems mephitis and the like fill that void. There seems to be a decent amount of elementals across all levels purely for that purpose.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid 20 = Infinite Hit Points

And a Hawk's would be 16. Good point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid 20 = Infinite Hit Points

Your shield either drops to the ground, merges with the new form, or is worn by it. However, most animals do not have the capacity to use a shield meant for a human, so it would not be added to your armor class. Mage Armor would be a decent way to increase AC to 15.

D&D 5E (2014) Deck of Many Things Preview

I'm so confused by this thought. I sincerely doubt the developers sit there with 300 or so pages and go "well we want to put in a full page of art for the Deck of Many Things, so I guess we'll have to take out these 4 magic items." More likely, they put in everything that they have, then trim...

House rule for overnight healing: opinions wanted

I agree with what Joe Liker said above. The immediate thing you have to remember about HP are that they are an abstraction, and have little to do with how much a PC is actually hurt. They are not like wounds in the Dark Heresy game for example, and this is because D&D on its own is more suited...

    D&D 5E (2014) General Feats Discussion

The point is supposed to be that the feats are an equal option, not that they are better than a +2 to a skill. And in many ways, they are significantly better than taking a bonus to an ability score. What if you have a fighter that has a 19 on their strength, but wants something better than a +1...
