D&D 5E (2014) I'd like to know the thinking behind this....

I would venture a guess to say they put tieflings in there because they are popular, and they excluded Aasimar because they are not. None of the races are inherently evil. Obviously, having the heritage of a fiend/orc might make you more inclined to be evil, because it comes along with a lot...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e death and consequences?

As a DM, I can totally understand banning these. Banning them definitely makes the game feel more dangerous and exciting, and I can stand by that. But that wasn't just a steep price to bring their friend back, that was needlessly unfair. In 5E, losing the highest ability score is permanently...

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual and Players Hand Book Power Levels

Huh, didn't know they lowered the grog age requirement to 22. I've been here for a little over a month. Then again, I am fairly charismatic, so perhaps some of the mods have taken a liking to me already. :P In all seriousness, based on your posts in this thread, it does make me think that you...

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual and Players Hand Book Power Levels

It seems pretty obvious that you haven't played the game at this point. Those things are still incredibly powerful. Just because their AC is lower doesn't mean they aren't still scary.

D&D 5E (2014) So now 5ed has been released who will be fired this 4th quarter?

Why is this a thing you would even remotely want to discuss?

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

It was a hypothetical. The point is, Rangers aren't simply archers, they have a variety of things they can do at any moment. Although, since a fighter would use a whole quiver's worth of arrows in just a few rounds, I'd love to see the look on his face when the archer with swift quiver continues...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

Yeah kind of ludicrous... then again, you could also make the argument that not all of those wolves are attacking at once. But against a couple giants with an AC of 16, they're going to chew them up very very quickly.

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

I apologize. I was being rather rude, but I have done an awful lot of defending for the poor, ganged up on ranger, so for some reason I feel a little protective. That didn't excuse my actions and I apologize. Realizing that I likely made some mistakes, I went back and did every calculation...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

Yeah, I know. But he can cast Hunter's Mark at least 4 times a day, and more if he wants to use up a higher level spell slot. You're right, that was a typo. It's 40 damage every round over 5 rounds, for a total of 200 damage. So I was off by 10, not by 50 like you are. And I did this with a...

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual and Players Hand Book Power Levels

If the adventure is bland, no amount of crunch will save it. Likewise, if an adventure is good, the numbers shouldn't matter at all.

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

I'm really confused. I never mentioned a rogue, you're attempting to argue against my points, yet you agree with me? Were you referring to someone else?

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual and Players Hand Book Power Levels

How is it any less epic to kill the Tarrasque when one has a 35 AC and the other has a 25? In both, you're killing the Tarrasque, and in my mind, the raw numbers shouldn't make a difference. If you want to look at numbers though, you should note that the creatures in 5E do far more damage than...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

What best limited-use features are those? The only one that I can see is the spells, all of their other abilities are constant. When a fighter has used all of those abilities, he's down to about 4d8+20 a round, assuming no magic items. Max, this is 52 damage. Meanwhile, a ranger would deal...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

A couple of things. 1. Encounter powers are not the same as powers that require a short rest. Remember that in 4e, an encounter power was recharged after a short rest of 15 or so minutes, while in 5E a short rest is one hour. In the average dungeon, I would probably allow no more than one short...

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual and Players Hand Book Power Levels

Differentiation simply isn't handled by attack, but rather by abilities. The fighter is able to use a ton of different combat abilities at that level, as well as attack multiple times all at the same bonus. It makes them feel very powerful without letting them massively outclass anyone else in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Costs in 5E

There is very little in the monster manual that is immune to damage from non-magical weapons. If the town is being attacked by a demi-lich (which is the only thing I can see after a quick runthrough) they would probably be dead regardless if the local militia had magic weapons or not.

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual and Players Hand Book Power Levels

In agreement with others in this thread, and to show an example through some quick math, a 20th level fighter would have a +6 to hit from a proficiency bonus, a +5 from his ability modifier, and around a +2 from magic items, giving him a +13 bonus. This will be true for almost every character as...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Monster Manual: I think the really nice art detracts from the mediocre functionality of the book.

Yes, I have actually. Four sessions, two with the starter set, one with HotDQ and one with a continuing campaign from pathfinder that I converted. And yes, CR is a loosely based guideline, as you don't even use it when creating encounters, you use experience points. In fact, the CR rating seems...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Costs in 5E

I don't expect you to respond, since I don't think you care to respond to anyone who refutes your points, but I still want to for some reason. How often do Noblemen see a monster? Once in their lives? Twice? Never? Sure, the duke might have a use for a magic sword, but it wouldn't be to go out...

Oh I actually enjoy it too, but I know many many Sailor Moon fans who hate it purely based on the intro alone. :erm:
