D&D General Which was your favourite Forgotten Realms Cosmology?

Was world axis in forgotten realms? I thought that was unique to Points of Light.

D&D 5E (2014) How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

Haven't really read the full thread, but ... Fixing the spell list. The problem isn't spellcasters, or any indivindual spellcasting class, its the spells themselves that are the issue. Eliminating problematic spells (or spells that effectively replace entire other classes) is the first step...

D&D General How Do You Feel About Randomness?

I dislike random stats. Or HP. Been on the end of lucky rolls, unlucky, misaligned stats for concept, cheaters... the good doesn't outweigh the bad imho. Random encounter? The DM needs to prep either way. As a player, don't care. Attack/damage/skill/save rolls are just the game. Wild...

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the new 2024 edition d&d?

I'm not terribly excited. It's good, solid updates to everything. IIt'll be fun to play. Definitely worth the switch. Looking forwards to see how my favorite classes (hint- it's warlock and the half-casters) shake out. It's not exactly NEW ideas though. It's not inspiring me in new ways. I'm...

D&D 5E (2024) What Should A New Core Setting Look Like?

I'm not sure doing anime/JRPG settings would really change much. At best, we'd get more species options (Slimefolk, cat/dog/fox/bunny folk, probably a warforged variation, etc) in the core plus Artificer by default. Which I greatly approve of. But most of the setting isn't too far from base dnd.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

I'd say yes, but looking at other places... People still troll about the Ranger over on DDB, reddit has a hate-on for Rogue, got at least one discord channel unhappy with druid. I think it's just pick-a-class-to-hate-on.

D&D General Help me avoid “Chosen Ones” trope

In 13th age, there are always 13 Archetypes. When one dies, a new one takes up the Mantle. Maybe these are used by people, but when they die, they're scattered. So random chance to find one. And there recently was a huge war, with big bodycount.... Now, why would they want to find the...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

I feel compelled to point out that post-Tasha subclasses have bonus spells. So they get 4 spells per spell level until sorcerer 11. And 5.5e will have at least two of the pist-Tasha subclasses so we might see that again.

D&D General Which Gods/Pantheons do you use in your D&D setting?

Heh. Technically, the gods of my world are all just high CR monsters. The LG "gods" are just a council of Solars, seven of them, one per muntain. The demon lords and archdevils act as gods. Moradin is Primus, a powerful modrum, the Machine God. Corellon is Oberon, 3-in-1 moon goddess is...

Hey. There's an xkdc for this!

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

The inherent gift trope, the affinity-as-subclass, the certainty its not all bloodlines, etc. Mostly? It's mechanics for subclass, feats and diffent sorcerer-only magic items that (imho) effectively function as patches to the main class. There's lots of little details scattered around that add...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

The opposte, I'd say. the commonalities of its roots are what makes me confident of the 5e sorcerer identity. It's something built up over the past 10 years since 5e first came out. At least until Tasha's. They started doing better, but that's been a long time for people to have their own...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

No, no, wizards are their book. Just like a fighter is their weapon. And a cleric is their holy symbol. Nothing else matters. Its like how barbarians are just different flavors of giant axes. Rogues get to be sneaky and be TWO things - a set of lockpicks and their stabby blade! They're...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

First let me say that I misread innate spellcasting to mean "flexible casting vs traditional Vancian" at first. I'm a bit too used to people pointing out the sorcerer's 3e origin as an experimental mechanics class, and I think we've grown past that. Much like the modern warlock is a mix of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorm Sorcerer upgrades. (+)

In order, the answers are: See Below, Player Choice, The Cleric Answer, No, No, Not Con, See Below, Don't trust WotC I actually wrote down what I wanted in the giant hate thread, but my preference is to KISS and make some minor houserules to improve the current sorcerer rather than rework it...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

No, not really. Nor is it really the sorcerer's identity. Despite what some people will claim, 5e classes are NOT defined by their mechanics. Every class has an a class fantasy. A trope that they represent. A story that they do better than anyone else. For the sorcerer, that trope is the...

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

You're being factious, but I have made subclasses for quite a number of "commoner" occupations. The maid rogue who uses "disguise kit" as fashion / sewing and has herbal kit proficiency to make teas, the druid farmer who's in tune with the land spirits. A tailor's proficiency with needles...

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

The difference is that its part of the Fighter's class identity and class fantasy, whereas its not necessarily part of anyone else's. Anyone can spend time praying in a temple, not just clerics. Likewise, anyone can study in an academy, or learn to play music, or steal things. They're not...

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

Not entirely, no. From the Fighter class description: Its saying that not every soldier or guard is a Fighter, but that implies quite a number of them very much are, and very much are part of the class fantasy.
