    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

Magic items for spellcasters generally don't improve the damage of their spells. Instead, they tend to come with charges and prepackaged spells, increasing the spells-per-day they can cast. Which... doesn't really affect Eldritch Blast. What generally happens when a warlocks gets, say, a...

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

Ranger was one of the first classes, and they flat out said they realized that TWFing with Hunter Mark on Ranger was too strong and were planning to bring it down a bit on the video. Druid doesn't really use Hunter Mark, so no reason to consider it there.

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

It is a nice way to go about it. I've done similar and it works nicely. That said... its worth talking about the fighting styles. Like... its not worth taking Fighting Styles or the Weapon Mastery feats, as they don't raise your casting stat. That said? Adding in a Fighting Style as part...

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

Hm. While this is true to an extent, would we be saying the same thing if Pact Blade made as many attacks as Eldritch Blast? Like, lets pretend for a moment that Pact Blade gave you a longbow and extra attacks at 11 and 17 instead of Lifedrinker. Same damage, better range. Would people...

They also baked it into Book for free with the level 5 upgrade. Chain got familiar attacks, which seem to be doing damage too. So, its free for book, and a cost for chain if they want to be even better. And blades are off in terms of damage at level 11+ compared to E.B.. But this is...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you actually like weapon masteries?

People did the same thing with the Champion subclass. It was determined to do less damage than a Battlemaster who never got a single short rest. Champion remains the more played choice. People will argue, champion players will still take Flex even if the charop peeps determine it to be trash.

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

Personal experience. Monsters at any given CR usually have a 3-4 AC range. Couple that with individual PC builds differences, which may or may not include +X weaponry and/or belts of giant strength. Cleave becomes more valuable and Graze far less valuable as your to-hit rises; against solo...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you actually like weapon masteries?

And? Then you have other choices than taking a weapon with Flex. Not all choices have to appeal to all people.

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

Treatmonk, in my experience, is someone who you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt. Their math is heavily dependent upon monster AC, DM playstyle and a few other factors. And, in truth, his playstyle is not indicative of most other tables. And... no, we don't know that it...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you actually like weapon masteries?

I'm going to go out on a limb for a second and come out in Crawford's defence here. Flex is just a simple and straight forwards damage boost. Its not tactically complex, it doesn't do much other than add an effective +1 damage average. There is a significant amount of simple Fighter fans who...

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

So... really quick thought. One thing about 1dnd that has been annoying me is all the complaints about nerfs. "Martials have been nerfed and not compensated for loss of SS/GWM!" "Rogue damage has been nerfed!" "Cleric staples have been nerfed!" "Paladin smite novas have been nerfed!" And...

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

As a warlock fan that likes the changes... no. Just no. This whole "anyone who likes this can't be a fan" narrative is just annoying and harmful. And, you know what? What's wrong with broadening the appeal so that more people can become fans? Even if this wasn't the way to do it, what...

D&D 5E (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Short rests are also on the party, not on the DM. Its a team choice. And sometimes they think that short rest would be interrupted, or doesn't make sense, when the DM was planning on one.

D&D 5E (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

You know one thing that I want to see, no matter if its Pact Magic or Half-Caster? Bloody Hellish Rebuke actually be worth using. Make the warlock spells actually matter.

D&D 5E (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Yeah, its an issue where warlocks end up feeling either underpowered or overpowered, depending on how any specific table runs short rests. Its why I hate short-rest-classes. They're so inconsistent that it can be painful. EDIT - honestly, its mostly because they're a victim of the...

Fiend and Genie pact can. I default to Fiend simply because... well... name.

Its almost like there's more to the class than pact magic, yah? Or someone likes the themes more than the mechanics.

D&D 5E (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Oh, bleh. I misrememberd, which means Twin Spell just a bad spell points >> spell slot metamagic. Assuming you want to cast the same spell twice and have nothing better to spend your points on.

D&D 5E (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

It works in 4e and its clones (which includes 13Age), because that game revolves primarily around combat, often even the utilies. I say this as someone who loves playing 13Age. That is simply untrue in 5e, demonstrably so with the example of Wild Beyond the Witchlight - an entire adventure that...

D&D 5E (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

This kind of illustrates why I find Font of Power such a headache. Why is creating a spell slot so much more expensive than its reverse? And the new Twinned Spell doesn't allow you to share Concentrate on the twinned spell anymore, so your previous iteration of Banishment loses Concentration...
