    D&D Movie/TV Here Come The D&D Movie Gaming Tie-Ins!

Basically, when you buy a $16 ticket, the studio gets $8 and the theater gets $8. It is insanely more complicated than that, but at the end of a theatrical run, that's the usual breakdown. And after the first couple of weeks, it starts to weight towards the theaters as opposed to the studio. If...

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

Did you enjoy the movie? If you're lied to, and you enjoyed the movie, enough so that you'd recommend it to friends, it doesn't really matter if they lied to you or not. If on the other hand, you didn't even go to the movie at all, because the advertising seemed bad — that maze arena as an...

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

I don't think it is so much that it lied about the motivation of the movie so much so that it is more that the advertising isn't focused on "here's a party, sketch out some short details, here's the macguffin, go, fun movie for everyone" but rather "we have so many easter eggs that we can...

It isn't appearing to be doing well: https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Dungeons-and-Dragons-Honor-Among-Thieves-(2023)#tab=box-office Basically, it doesn't appear to have legs domestically — it is in the bottom 5-10% of movies, which is not what you want to see.

    D&D Movie/TV DADHAT hits $80,856,963 box office

Yeah, I don't think people quite understand often that the 1st-2nd edition war was in part due Greenwood's writing in Dragon magazine, his world taking over and what that meant.

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

I'd just note GenCon 2008 was 16 days after this happened. There was a huge problem with year 1 adventures mostly being written before release of the official rules, particularly in regards to Skill Challenges. To the point where for literal months, people were asking on the forum "Hey, what's...

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

To be specific, if it stays at 80% on Metacritic, that would beat every single MCU movie in ratings except Black Panther. It might not do blockbuster Marvel numbers, but I would say $600-700 million or more isn't out of the realm of possibility now.

I was extremely suspicious of it given the previews, which suggested bad, but if those reviews keep up, it will do blowout numbers.

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

If every option is at-will, balancing is much harder. Dishearten is famous for this in 4e —in Epic, a PC could legitimately use that power Augmented 2 every round of most combats, imposing penalties of 7-9 to hit or so. By forcing choice, it allows more choice that then stays within the balance...

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

Yeah, the basic problem is that if you have recharging resources that are dependent on resting and they're not all the same, different classes will have different power levels dependent on those numbers. Like daily 5e spell casters, who benefit from a single rest do better than short rest spell...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Math of 5e

Me: "This is a document about what the system tells you to do." People: "We don't do that and we broke a bound that's unfun." Me: "That's an expected outcome." You: "Oh, blame the DM why don't you???" Should weird things happen if you don't follow system guidance? Sure. Is that acceptable to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Math of 5e

PCs should not need a 20 to be hit and also, Bounded Accuracy is not a thing in 5e. 5e's math is more accurately 4e/2 math, just made fuzzy and obscure. You have enough encounters to use up level 1 spell slots, PCs will not be casting Shield functionally at-will. If you don't have enough...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Math of 5e

4 person party gets in Xanathar's 20 minor items each and 5 major items, 2 Uncommon, 1 Rare, 1 Very Rare, 1 Legendary... i.e. they had the same numbers as this thread.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Math of 5e

Just to use the Berserker as a specific example, assuming they're raging and doing frenzy for the combat: They go from 1d8+7(25% kill) to 1d8+10(63% kill) They go from hitting on a 6(75%) to a 3(90%) They get hit with Advantage 64% to 51% They get hit without Advantage 40% to 30% Now note what...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Math of 5e

That's the point. I'm describing the typical campaign that R&D is talking about in DMG. You're not playing a typical campaign and telling me that you don't see the effect of magic items. Because a caster could use up her high level spells without fear of needing them later. In part because the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Math of 5e

If these PCs are fighting 6-8 medium to hard combats in a day and the one at-level primary caster is blowing half her high level spell capability on an easy fight, that's an example of how magic items make a difference.

The 4e Discord server, which has about 4000 people or so on it, usually has new games showing up every third day or so in the looking for games channel: https://discord.gg/ywBGjHTJ

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Math of 5e

Btw, this got called out by Alphastream/Teos on Dragon Talk #364 at approximately the 10 minute mark(as well as some similar math), so WotC's aware of it and perhaps it is influencing some things.

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

Yup, I think though that it is more clear than that — the general rule is you can take feats as long as you qualify for them. The restrictions of multiclass feats doesn't conflict with that in the slightest for taking more than one.
