New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

Because the sad reality is that if you put it up on preorder on the store, a lot of people will go "nah, I'll wait until it's released." And that will not give them the numbers they need for printing them — and that's the big issue considering that they keep selling out copies. A kickstarter...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

This is very localised because I still don't get why you would want to play rpgs in a store and have never seen one do it. Magic duels and stuff like that, yes, but actual campaigns? A pub in the afternoons is a less noisy and more comfortable option.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

It's also a new rpg book that hasn't any connection to previous IP. You really don't want to sit on 10 000 copies when you sold 1000. This caught everyone unawares and there's a shortage everywhere. I don't think a single copy has reached the stores in Sweden — only CR's EU shop.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

There's a difference between getting equipment in game and writing it down because you have an idea that you might need it, and the stuff that you get from the equipment packs. No-one knows what's in the backpack after character creation.

Sounds like any random group of players to me.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Sure it is but in a dramaturgical way rather than random. And it's way more inline with the grimdark literary genre it's inspired by, things go to naughty word and the main character get's mangled but they do survive. The disconnect is that some people believe that death is the only consequence that...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I did see some people complain that Age of Umbra wasn't enough soulslike, and I'm sitting here going "no, it's way more deadly." A soulslike ttrpg should have unlimited respawns when you die.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

If deadliness is only defied on character actually dying during the game rather than how the rules interact, then Call of Cthulhu isn't particular deadly at all. Seeing people go "It's gone X sessions and no-one has died!!1!" from the start makes me think people don't care about how players...

    Old shows that you enjoy?

Yes. And shares a lot of people with the later show in the same city, the Wire.

    Old shows that you enjoy?

It's a bit like when Showtime decided to cancel Odyssey 5 because "we're not interested in science fiction right now" despite it was their number one show ratingswise.

    Old shows that you enjoy?

Max Headroom has aged surprisingly well — the channel 4 movie more so than the tv-show. And while I personally don't consider it old, Farscape is 25 years or so now. Still amazing. (A friend and I are currently rewatching Homicide: Life In the Streets. Recommended if you haven't as it deal...

    Old shows that you enjoy?

Callan. Edward Woodward as a spy who shouldn't be out in the field because he's already broken as heck. And yet his bosses keep using him. Unfortunately a lot of episodes are missing.

    Old shows that you enjoy?

Sandbaggers was the number one inspiration for Greg Rucka's Queen & Country comic — a bit less cold war than the Sandbaggers tv show obviously. Both highly recommended.

What do you use to stream on your TV?

Google TV. The older version with less storage and no Ethernet port. It has most of the apps (including Kodi for NAS-access and Deezer/spotify for music) and the remote can handle soundbar and tv on/off. And I can take it with me quite easily.

Bob Worldbuilder debunks the Daggerheart license “scandal”

It doesn't take any money from you and doesn't lock you into one venue so miles better than DM'sGuild.

Depending on how powerful one wants them to be, one could make them behave as specialisations. If you pick that level up, then you choose if you want the one for you class or an available dragonmark.

That's Mercer in all his campaigns. The main campaigns even have magic shops where they can get personalised magical items.

Suggested spends are a good starting guideline. And then see how you need to change it depending on the players and how you run the game, fear spends is so much vibes based that it's silly. :D

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Worth noting is that low-level Daggerheart is not the same as in D&D 5e. DH tier 1 character is more first or second level 4e or 3rd level 5e powerwise.

What makes a successful horror game?

I'm very much in the player buy-in, tension, and atmosphere camp. Lethality? No, then meatgrinders would be horrific but as they've shown, you can just make a new character so after a while you (read: I) stop caring. Sanity? Almost all of them are about removing agency from the players and it...
