D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

One thing to consider in read aloud texts is that if I'm playing the game in Swedish and the text is in English it automatically creates dissonance in the game. When we were younger me and my friends used to call out specific words we heard after the GM read a text aloud. "I heard chest!" "I...

How Much Do You Care About Novelty?

I want weird and crazy and over the top. I want new and innovative and cutting edge. I want to be wowed and amazed and surprised. At the same time I know I wont be able to place these games because they usually run on the presumption that everyone, players as well as GMs, have read both...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Why wouldn't that be solved by the GM knowing or asking for the PCs THAC0 so he could just reference the roll? I completely agree that the equation you described before was too complicated. I just tell my players the AC since it doesn't change anything at all. I figure their PCs manage to figure...

I have always thought you subtracted the AC from the THAC0 thus getting the goal number for the roll. The bonuses (usually not being that impressive) only need to be considered if you failed but got really close.

I played a lot of ttrpgs before trying D&D and when I finally got to it it was AD&D 2nd edition. We scratched our heads over the whole THAC0 thing thinking it one of the weirdest systems we'd ever played. Today I run OSE and find THAC0 to be a easy system to grok. Neither better nor worse than...

GAMA's Communications Manager Declares Organization 'Broken'

Good for her getting away from a bad situation. Being able to tell others of poor working conditions in a company without having to fear reprisals is a integral part of a democratic society so all in all I think it's good she came forward with this information. It also helps consumers make...

I just didn’t want the discussion becoming some “do not”, “do to” situation. You keep pointing fingers while excluding yourself from blame. You claimed that I ignored facts while ignoring the facts i provided as well. A part from this, our discussion was a severe derail of the OP which I never...

Please don’t assume my level of reaction. I just jumped a discussion with someone who refused to take my experience and knowledge seriously. But like I stated, it really doesn’t matter. These discussions have no bearing on real life.

Chill out man. Who cares. Nothing matters and everyone dies. I don’t have your stamina for this nonsense so I guess you win. Soak it in.

Does it? Most thermostats never broke down. The fact that some did doesn't prove anything. A lot of circuit boards fail as well, but not all of course. They are however more sensitive and when they break they cause more trouble than some ice build up. Yeah. This was actually never a comparison...

Well frost free refrigerators has been a thing since at least the 50s. If yours wasn't, perhaps it was older or perhaps it needed to change the thermostat. Changing the thermostat on an old fridge is easy and not very costly while if this where to happen to a new system you would most likely...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Sometimes I forget that things I know due to education, training and experience become not true when they reach the internet. Has anyone else noticed this?

Hard disagree on both accounts. Having worked with refrigerators I know quite well that none of what you claimed about old fridges are true. Buying a new fridge will not save you any money at all, these things are made up by the companies selling you the products. Also I'm not sure what kind of...

Other have already addressed your post here but I would also like to do this by telling you about refrigerators. Once upon a time buying a refrigerator was a long time purchase. You could get warranty for 15-20 years on a new fridge and they would often last a lot longer than this. I've seen...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Once again I feel you didn't read my post since the thing you quoted above was what I've seen other claim, not what I think. I think that in the end we feel the same about Mearls post and have (basically) the same take away but for some reason you still want to argue with me. Since I (mostly)...

I don't think Mearls have any interest in returning to this thread so let's take his last comment and make a study of it. Let us look at the words that have lead to such polarizing opinions. Grab your SCUBA gear, we're doing a deep dive. Ah, that's nice. Never read anything about this so I...
