D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

This is the fascinating thing about how expectations shift. We have several hundred out of print products available for a cut price rate of a couple of dollars each Something we could only have dreamed of 15 years ago. That is amazing! These are the Good Days [+]

I love the fact that the wider Forgotten Realms have been detailed for 5e - particularly Calimsham and the Dalelands - and brought into the 21st century. I’ll go farther and say it’s pretty amazing that FR Wiki exists. All indexed, linked, spanning multiple editions. Well organised and damn...

    D&D General Tools for PCs?

As long as D&D dollars aren’t going to Rowling I’m not going to boycott what is a great, and diverse brand. It feels counterproductive. If the team weren’t diverse and open that might be a different kettle of fish. Particularly given the recent hires. A boycott only targets the wrong people as...

Yes integrating choices with rules available at the click of a button. Automated random tables etc. makes things dramatically easier. I remember trying to onboard four new players to Pathfinder 1e and explaining that they could choose between roughly 500 feats. (There were more like 2000 but I...

D&D General When Was it Decided Fighters Should Suck at Everything but Combat?

I think you’re missing an option… That the level of detail increases the higher the result. Knowledge doesn’t have to be binary.

D&D General When Was it Decided Fighters Should Suck at Everything but Combat?

Rolling dice and gittin gud is fun. It is enjoyably in and of itself. Chance is better when it’s random. Chance is less impressive when they DM has decided it. Sure, and to be clear it’s rare to hear me say this but the DM doesn’t need to do that. It’s more natural to let the other players...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I guess my response would be if you forget, will the world really stop turning. I put DnD on when I’m using my phone for Teams calls. I regularly forget to take it off. Not once has that been a sad thing for me. The messages are there waiting for me, next time I look at it.

    I think it was a pun… DND… for D&D.

I love that Foundry has been fully adopted by D&D. It’s a great VTT. My favorite to date and I’ve used a few. To see fully integrated scripted official modules released days after their publication was a real boon and showed they weren’t just focusing on Beyond and Maps. I also love that there...

A rising tide lifts all ships. I do use both, I like to have the adventure in physical format but rules available digitally. Mainly so I can use search functions.

D&D General Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

Sure. Like most of us I can only control how AI is used on a personal level. I don’t run my own business or publish myself. I don’t let the fact that other people aren’t using something ethically to stop me do so respectfully. Nor do I blame the tool rather than the workman. Covering the...

Yes definitely. I went for one day for the first time last year. Want to try and tempt @GuyBoy up north for it. Definitely want to be more organized and book some things this year!

I think the 3d printing element is a game changer if the technology keeps spreading / gets cheaper. My ex house mate does a lot of wargaming and has invested. Not the eye watering sum it would have been even 5 years ago. A couple of fantasy patreons gives him huge numbers of templates. Far more...

WotC $HAS Fourth Quarter 2025 Earnings Call + D&D and Chris Cocks on AI usage transcript excerpt (26Feb10)

It’s absolutely subjective. Nine months into a campaign ran by @GuyBoy featuring both 2024 and Eve of ruin a bunch of jaded 40 and 50 year old Grognard’s are loving it.

D&D General When Was it Decided Fighters Should Suck at Everything but Combat?

Being able to roll gives people an incentive to invest in and get better at that particular talent. Developing ability scores, choosing skills, racial abilities, expertise, Feats, spells etc. It also also allows the vagueries of chance and fate to change things. Chaos can be good when it leads...

I don’t know what any of that means. Path of least resistance? Give bare minimum? Commodify classes? It sounds like the equivalent of management speak.

I’m going to start with three… 1. Discord communities and VTT have for the first time meant that I can have a real time gaming group with two players in America, two in England and two in Eastern Europe. Everyone brings different experiences but they are really cool. 2. I’m also really...

This thread might not be what you are expecting. I’m not going to tell you that everything that WotC does is amazing and we’re living in a WotC utopia of TTRPG gaming. It is about why it’s important to recognize what we have and not focus on what we don’t have. Happiness matters, it enhances...

I can’t abide the hope that D&D becomes unpopular or exclusive again because then “we’ll get it back”. It sounds like the worst kind of aspiration to want to something to fail so you can own it.

Well they are hiring a lot of creatives. So if by ‘messing with’ that’s what you mean. Whether you think that’s a good thing or a bad thing depends on what you think of the designers and there work up to this point. It’s hard because I’m really enjoying what they have put out in the last two...
