D&D General What class is this character, and is she wearing armor?

It's a leather curiass, which is like a breastplate that covers both front and back. Unlike full leather armor, which is closer to a dress that covers most of the body, this would be preferred by those who require more maneuverability. Add in the fingerless gloves and crystal, I'd say it's a...

D&D General "All will be well"

My current paladin is based on Saint Walker, the Blue Lantern, so my battle cry is in fact, "all will be well!"

D&D General Elephants are cheaper than Warhorses

Assuming there's no rarity issue, it makes a level of sense. A warhorse is trained, whereas an elephant is just an elephant. A war elephant would be both badass and more expensive. Edit: ninja'd! As for the food aspect, there's work involved in being a butcher. The meat will spoil quickly...

D&D 5E (2014) Finished running Vecna: Eve of Ruin!

Good to hear. I've been running it for about 6 sessions, having just finished chapter 3 (spelljammer). I've been attempting to enhance it a bit, by adding in information about Sigil and Planescape. I also tried to add some more info about spelljammer as well, since my players knew nothing about...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

I've had to put up with crap from both TSR and WotC, so I've learned not to put too much faith in a corporation. If they put out a product I'm interested in, I'll buy it; otherwise I won't.

D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Healing Powercreep

I think the healing powercreep is an extension of the change in the way the game is played. Combat in earlier editions was brutal, and could often be avoided or won before initiative was even rolled ("combat as war"). Modern gaming assumes combat is the default method for overcoming enemies...

D&D General Roleplaying Origins of Early DnD

Sort of. I pissed off a player during a game, and he slit my throat in my sleep.

D&D 5E (2014) Almost at the end of Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Currently running it, and the players seem to be having a good time. The Chapter 2 Underdark was pretty weak IMO, but I've also been boosting the power level of everything to make it more challenging. One interesting note is that my players have a far better name for the creature at the end of...

D&D General How long has your Current Group gamed together?

My current group, minus one player, has been together since the D&D Next Playtest. We've lost several along the way, going from a group of 9 down to a group of 6 (including DM), picking up only 1 player about a year and a half ago. Personally I'm fine with the smaller group, even though it means...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

Something I'm going to incorporate is based on how I currently run languages in my Greyhawk campaign. All PCs start with a "racial/cultural" language based on where they grow up, the Common trade tongue (unless they grew up in a major cultural metropolis where it would be the cultural language)...

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

While I'm still going to get the books, I'll admit I'm quite concerned with the number of rules issues they've created. I wonder how much of it was inadvertent and how much was deliberate.

    D&D General Who shouldn't play D&D

RPGs aren't for everyone, and neither is D&D. I've introduced dozens of people to D&D who never took to it. Most just never got into RPGs, but a handful of others found enjoyment in other RPGs. Everyone has a personal preference.

D&D General Darkvision, Dim Light, and Disadvantage

In the entirety of 5E, I've never had a party always go full darkvision. The Perception penalty is too much of problem, allowing the party to be frequently surprised (which under 2014 rules is really bad). We've always had light sources, turning the dim light into bright light to negate the...

D&D 5E (2024) Current Stealth Rule Actually Works As Is. If Moving Out of Cover After Hiding Makes Enemies Immediately "Finds You", Hide Would Be Totally UNUSABLE.

This is because the surveys never addressed the change. I noticed it immediately, yet it was never in any of the playtest surveys. WotC made up their mind and wasn't going to hear input from the players about it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

Potions of Healing being common equipment, and the new use of them as a bonus action. I'll continue to replace them with Herbs of Healing, which is a non-magical version that takes 1 minute to apply. Potions of Healing can be found as treasure, just like every other magic item.

D&D General Not the Wicked Witch: Revisiting the Legacy of Lorraine Williams

Lorraine Williams probably wasn't quite the villain she's been made out to be, but she was always going to be the villain. TSR needed to move into a more realistic business model that Gygax simply wasn't going to provide, but whoever took the reins after him was going to be the bad guy. Maybe if...

D&D 5E (2024) DMs, what makes running D&D fun for you?

It's really hard to say. Sometimes being a DM is an ordeal, but with the right group it's the best experience. There's a lot about it I enjoy, but I think providing challenges for the players to overcome is what I enjoy best. I'm fairly evil in my design stage, but during the sessions I try to...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Players Handbook: Personality and Appearance is now part of the Abilities (not background or species) - NEW Alignment decriptions.

Technically you should do Ability Scores first then, since that sets your inherent talents. Personally I go Race, Class, Ability Score, then Background.

    D&D 5E (2024) Influence Action

No, but I sadly suspect that Bonds/Traits/Flaws won't even make it into 5.5
