D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

I don't like seafood. I don't go to seafood restaurants....order seafood and then complain about all the seafood that I've forced myself to eat. Why are there so many people playing games they don't really like? (rhetorical question in 3..2..) Why do those people spend time in a dedicated...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

I think combat is only boring if you're bored with combat. D&D is mostly about combat, if you don't like combat D&D might not be the system for you. And that's ok.

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

I'd say the vast majority of the RPG books on my shelf have never been opened more than once. I'm sure this will be true of the 5 Kickstarters I'm currently waiting for as well. Not to mention the 2 current Kickstarters that I'm considering. I'm just a guy that likes shiny, shiny things. o_O

D&D General What Does New Coke Tell Us About Designing for D&D

The following is a meaningless diatribe and should be ignored: I'm great at my job but don't care that much about it. A well trained labrador could do it. (he says while typing on a company computer) Profits are a red herring and every time these conversations head in this direction i want to...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Couldn't any game be romance secondary? That would be entirely up to the parties involved. My question was/is are there games where there are mechanics for "romance"? I'm genuinely asking if these games are considered Romance RPGs?

Interesting. I've heard of most of these but had no idea that they were romance focused. Thanks for sharing.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

I see people mentioning romance as a TTRPG genre. Are there games/systems where romance is the main focus; or is that just something that gets folded in as part of the narrative? I know it's a big thing in literary circles but I am unfamiliar with it as an RPG genre.
