I disagree. Maybe it would make it more unfun for you, not for everybody. The problem with "fun" and "unfun" are subjective concepts, what is utterly unfun for you could be very fun for me. That's a point that many 4e-haters and 4e-fans seem to forget these times...

If you go near Mount St Michel, sleeping in the island is a must, yes. The night, when most tourist leave and shops close, the whole island seems faeric. And if you are at Mt St Michel and you have an extra day to spend, go see St Malo, the ancient corsair city, and Dinan, a wonderful medieval...

So more or less a level every four months ? For me it is too slowly, way too slowly. But yes, I agree, it's an example of how tastes differ. What I would love is, no matter what leveling pace they choose, a sidebar in DMG giving guidelines for different pacing (XP and treasure guidelines...

So why not Magic Missile at will ? Less paperwork, less bookkeeping. A modified magic missile, with to-hit roll, at will. It wouldn't be too powerful, and it would be simpler than having to see if the 10 minutes have passed and a new spell must be cast.

I like a lot your rules, Mustrum_Ridcully. I had been toying with several rules to get encounter based spell management, but I think I'm going to get a slighly modified version of yours.

For Rejuvenating Spell I propose to change the chain of feats effects : Rejuvenating Spell : a 0th level spell at will Magic Rejuvenation : a 1st level spell at will Magic Rejuvenation, Improved : a 2nd level spell at will Magic Rejuvenation, Epic : a 3rd level spell at will IMO, a 3rd level...

I hope the % roll is changed. I deeply dislike percentile rolls in d20, I would vote for a Concentration check where DC is function of armor worn, or something, but not a percentile roll.

Unless 3.5e is objectively better than 4e, then they should have no problem. So if 4e indeed sucks, as they think it will, they will be able to find players easily, as many 3.5e players won't like to change. No big loss then... If they are sure 4e is worse, they shouldn't be worried ;)

Yeah, risking to fracture an already small fanbase, and even worse, risking to fracture a wonderful community like EN World :( Hopefully spirits will calm soon... or at worse some months after May 2008

Rabid and abusive behavior is not only from 4e fans. For example, yesterday I've been said to be smocking crack by a 3e supporter only because I dared to suggest that changes wouldn't be too dramatic... And if you think here we have rabid pro 3/4/any edition fans, you should go to Wizards boards.

In fact, I like that they make difficult running away from a monster faster than the slowlest party member. If the monster is fast, running away shouldn't be an option. Retreating around corners to get a safe retreat is ( YMHO ) metagaming, so I'm glad it won't work. Trying to escape, retreat...

And it works really well...

There will be a 5e, in a few (or not so few) years. It will be natural, video-games have versions, miniature games have versions, movies have remakes... Look at Warhammer games, new edition every few years and people don't feel cheated (well, they do feel cheated, but they buy and play it anyways).
