Pathfinder 2E Do you think 1st or 2nd edition is more complicated?

In the end, they may be a wash as far as complexity. But in my experience with both, PF1 has a longer onramp of lower to increasing complexity than PF2 that I found a lot easier to manage.

Is there a good reason the GM curation vs Player PC choices conversation has polluted this thread now?

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, that pot is most assuredly cracked. And I'm not at all surprised.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

US public schooling is constantly caught in a nasty social dilemma because it's publicly funded out of everyone's tax dollars, has a mandate to serve all kids of virtually all abilities, but is also subject to every individual's private agendas and interests - particularly, keeping their own...

Highly-Anticipated Star Wars Movie Becomes Disney+ Show — Report

Solo was, like, 3 movies squashed into one in order to hit all the important story beats in Han Solo's life because who knew if they were gonna get a sequel.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

Between this and customizing monsters, I kind of expect one of the follow-up publications to include some of these options and gameplay dials for game customization. And how many people made use of the Fix menu option in their SSI D&D computer games? It automated casting all the healing spells...

    Comic Book General Thread

The only comic book I still buy regularly is Usage Yojimbo. Stan Sakai's narratives are always top notch. I do, however, still buy the occasional trade paperback compiling stories from days gone bye, but even then I don't buy very many of them. I did drop a big chunk of change on Marvel...

I see it's one of these kids of days. Must end in a Y.

Let's Talk About Supers RPGs (Especially Ones Good For Cons)

I used to run Villains and Vigilantes at Gen Con an increasingly large number of years ago. I think there'd still be a lot of nostalgia out there for it, but if it isn't a game you've got a lot of familiarity with, I'd skip it. Mutants and Masterminds is my go-to supers game now in general and...

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

I started with the Holmes set and we muddled through well enough, though one player had experienced the game before. And having seen the original books, I do think Holmes truly was a major step in making the game understandable. Maybe not as far as the Moldvay then Mentzer editions, but still a...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The book sets that put The Magician's Nephew first generally put The Horse and His Boy as the third book in the series since it's after The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe but before Prince Caspian. And I don't like it put in that slot any more than I like The Magician's Nephew first.

Spoilers The Pitt Season 2 Discussion

Yes, but I don't see it paying off for a while. Perhaps he has a collision shortly after leaving for sabbatical and the season cliffhanger is they wheel him in with a head injury?

Technically correct, but also incredibly wrong at the same time. Pretty much a textbook example of "technically correct". You can use algebra to give the players just addition and still use THAC0, but you can't really do that and keep it limited to the terms the player has readily in front of...

The problem here is that with two tests that must be achieved to sneak, it makes it a lot harder for the stealthy PC. Now try to handle it with the rogue trying to sneak past multiple potential opponents - UGH! And that's ultimately the trouble with multiple checks being necessary to succeed at...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

How dangerous is that trek, though? Because can't they largely stick to the trail where the encounters aren't all that violent on the encounter table?

With the exception of the ranger class which I would pull over from 1e, I'd play 2e in a heartbeat over 1e. No question.

What I'm getting at as far as being a narrative or conceptual consequence is that it either comes out in how a player (or DM) uses the smallness in the narrative or as part of the character's concept rather than a practical consequence imposed by the rules looking to simulate some difference...

Let's talk about "plot", "story", and "play to find out."

But you do keep returning to the idea that the story isn't what's being done at the table now, it's what you see and talk about when it's all done. And we are saying that's not the full truth. If you're playing, story's emerging now and can be talked about now and directed based on the agendas...
