Traveller Creator Marc Miller Passes Ownership To Mongoose

It's not a good deal, recently, it's 5 excellent kickstarters since 2018, and a current 6th one that is progressing nicely. I'm not trying to convince you of anything - you've obviously got reasons for feeling the way you do. I'm providing my own perspective. No congratulations are needed or...

Traveller Creator Marc Miller Passes Ownership To Mongoose

I've backed numerous Mongoose Kickstarters, and they all delivered what they promised, and on time. I've got a lot of confidence in Mongoose.

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

I don't have the book any more, but I seem to remember mention of the Sith in connection with Vader. A friend of mine has it on ebook and he looked it up for me. The first time we meet Vader, he is described as a Dark Lord of the Sith. We aren't told anything about the Sith except they are scary.

Freebies, Sales, and Charity Bundles for August 18, 2024

It's surprising how much that small error is irritating me. But I'm okay with Oryly instead of Oryly's. (I assume it's pronounced "O'Reilly" which is also making me groan.) The only comment so far on Drivethru is entirely concerned with commas.

RPG Print News – Free League, Mongoose, and More

The mere mention of the Stealth Train in that article made me giggle. I'm going to have to dig out my old copy and read it again, but it's probably buried away in a box somewhere. (The version I have is in Crash Priority for Paranoia XP, not sure if it is a conversion of an earlier adventure.)

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

Or for something completely different, there is the Oddsocks 45 minute livestreamed comedy version, performed during lockdown. Oddocks Macbeth (I'd suggest skipping the first 4 minutes of intro, but not skipping the cast intro, which takes about a minute after that)

D&D 5E (2014) Some adventure cover "mock-ups", which do you like most?

I voted for 3, because I liked the level of ferocity shown by the wolves (more than 1 and 2, but without the glowing eyes of 4). Although 1 has my favourite castle, and there's something sinister about how Strahd and wolves are apparently so welcoming. At the moment 2 is winning the vote, but...

    AD&D 1E Favorite Obscure Rules from TSR-era D&D

I once DMed a game where an Elven wizard tried to cast Sleep on a bunch of Elves. (It was 3rd edition, so the chance of failure was 100%; I have an idea it might have been "only" 90% in previous editions.) I guess I'm an evil DM, because I didn't stop him from trying. (If it had been a human...

    Poll: Heavily Non-Canon Star Wars

I'm sure I've seen a thread about that somewhere. (Maybe you did too?) There was some stuff on it that had never occurred to me, like Star Destroyers not carrying any tie fighters (since we never saw any launched in ANH other than from the Death Star).

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

I think the best use of canon is to inspire adventures. If it doesn't do that, what is the point of it? The worst canon actively closes off adventure ideas. For example, the first Pathfinder book about the multiverse said there weren't any Air Dragons on the elemental plane of air - why would...

D&D General A Rose By Any Other Name: Names in Greyhawk and a Little Judgin'

According to Wikipedia, Liverpool is derived from Old English, not Welsh.

And also in Icelandic, for some reason, although it sounds it bit more like a slurping noise, in my opinion.

D&D General A Rose By Any Other Name: Names in Greyhawk and a Little Judgin'

I pronounce it Llewelyn, since I've never heard anyone say it with a second LL. #eh wel in (with the # standing in for the ll sound)

D&D General A Rose By Any Other Name: Names in Greyhawk and a Little Judgin'

The Map Men have a good video on British place names (no need to single out just England here!) Why are British place names so hard to pronounce?

    AD&D 1E Favorite Obscure Rules from TSR-era D&D

That was the great thing about AD&D. You'd have a long write-up about how druids are nature priests, and believe really strongly in balance in all things, everything has a season etc. so must be true Neutral. And they lose all their powers if they ever stray from that alignment. Then someone...

D&D 5E (2024) How Does Greyhawk Fit In To The New Edition?

Dammit, now I want a full page of heraldry as well! I hope WotC doesn't listen to any misguided developers who suggest using the space to actually describe more places. Show me a purple shield with a white unicorn on it; what more do I need to know about the County of Ulek?

D&D General How often do you complete a campaign as a player?

Since my University days (when we never completed anything), I think I've had two campaigns as a player that didn't complete - in one of them the GM got bored with the campaign after 10 or so sessions, and in the other I withdrew from the group as the playstyle of the other players didn't suit...

What adventure module have you pillaged the most without using the main plot?

One of my (many, so far unfulfilled) campaign ideas is to run Souls, and then have the party equip their own expedition to Saventh-Yhi (if they are so inclined) and then run a modified version of the city, with competing groups of explorers turning up later on. So basically running the 1st...
