OSR [Kicking the Tires] Plotting an OSR Adventure Path

Having complained else-site about how Pathfinder APs tend to be a bit disjointed because they are written by several different main authors for each adventure, I am 100% pro this approach. Although it's not out of the question that if you release one before writing the ones remaining, you may...

What's the hardest attribute to effectively role-play?

I will say in my case, this was my own idea, the GM did not suggest it. I didn't want to play a character that was an 8-IQ when it was safe for the party or myself to do so; but then spouting off a bunch of ideas the rest of the time. I had fun at least and didn't wreck anyone else's fun...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

There's a reason they didn't reprint sea lions, Whizbang. We shall resume in an hour.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Lol, I thought you were going to say "wonder if they'll be old enough to appreciate WotC's next release announcement"

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Classes without Subclasses?

Ok wow, just scanned through the link. Amazing, and something I'd love to run/play someday.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Classes without Subclasses?

If I recall, this is the SRD explicilty. Only 1 subclass per class. Not sure I'm looking to simplify, although that's certainly an admirable goal, and for some groups the right choice (I'm thinking of one of my own groups tbh). But for me, I was thinking about giving my players a bit more...

These are the Good Days [+]

Folks have fond memories of the old RPGs and games AND can look at them with critical eyes of 2026 and call out the issues, with love. There are so many excellent games, rules frameworks, and people in this hobby. These are the good days.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Classes without Subclasses?

Over in another thread, someone mentions that they feel that subclasses are limiting. Whether we agree with them or not, it kind of got me thinking about D&D without subclasses. If you removed the default builds (aka subclasses), could you do something easy like take every single current class...

D&D General Mtg colors for class/subclass

Note also the Ravnica setting for D&D - the 10 guilds while "color" is not specifically called out, their nature is definitely implied in their in-world setting.

D&D General Mtg colors for class/subclass

Best analysis, and pretty much spot on.

What's the hardest attribute to effectively role-play?

I used to play a low IQ GURPS character. When I the player had an idea that was even remotely appropriate, I'd roll an IQ test. If I failed, my PC didn't say anything. If I succeeded, my PC could say the idea. It was fun, although we only did it if my idea seemed a bit above what a 6 IQ...

Why aren't megacorps as big a part of Steampunk as they are of Cyberpunk?

How about the fictional concept of Standard Oil, Union Pacific (or other railway(s)), US Steel, and JP Morgan all merged into one big conglomeration - JP Standard Industrial. And we pick a town that's a "company town" - perhaps Omaha Nebraska. And then a "pick 'em pal" of which robber baron to...

Why aren't megacorps as big a part of Steampunk as they are of Cyberpunk?

I think one of the qualities of a megacorp in cyberpunk settings is it's transnationalism/ubiquity. The fact that Renraku, a Japanese corp, has a huge arcology in Seattle, (in Shadowrun) is a big part of the flavor of the megacorp

Why aren't megacorps as big a part of Steampunk as they are of Cyberpunk?

so, TIL diselpunk Which led me down the wikipedia rabbit hole of cyberpunk derivatives. I like this sentence on the wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_derivatives

D&D General Do you use D&D style list of gods in your games?

Most of my D&D games are WotC published or set in Forgotten Realms; so by default yes. In a home-brew Freebooters on the Frontier game I ran, the 2e playtest rules include a section on creating a pantheon, so I did it then too.

    D&D 5E (2024) Essential Fighter’s Handbook

Would be pretty interested, but are you considering doing similar for all the classes? Also if you crowdfund, would be nice to have a tier for like 4 or 5 copies. Call it the "Gaming Group Bundle" or something, with a fiscally responsible (but also end-user appealing) bit of a discount. That...
