Nope... no matter what your intentions are nor the pains one takes not to offend... someone is going to be offended. Part of me thinks that cancel culture should come after Twitter as a whole and that we'd be better off without social media period.

A Look at the Jonstown Compendium

I read this as "Jonestown Compendium" and thought about Kool-Aid. Is that wrong?

That essay is full of errors. Two that jump out immediately are that the comeliness stat first appeared in Oriental Adventures and that Gary Gygax invented the alignment system.

I agree. I personally thought the book was puerile garbage - but whatever floats your boat as they say. It doesn't harm me if others enjoy it.

Controversy aside - I would really love to see an official sourcebook on Kara-Tur or Al-Qadim with writing done by folks who are connected to the cultures and mythologies which are being used as inspiration for the setting. I am aware that OA 1st edition was primarily Japanese mythology, and was...

Book of Vile Darkness was hot garbage for teenage boys anyway in my opinion... but to answer the first question. No.

Except they did't label everything wrong. The key word in the following statement is "some": Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today.

One big complaint I see about OA is that it is a mish mash of Asian cultures jammed together. Look at most western European fantasy and tell me that it is not a hodge podge of 4 or 5 cultures/mythologies/etc.

Right? Vinland Saga is one of my favorite anime. How dare the Japanese write about Vikings! Am I supposed to be outraged? It's ridiculous.

Probably the best compromise they could make. I don't like it, but there you go.

D&D General Critical Role Investigation Into Complaint

I've grown to hate Twitter in particular. IG and FB are not as bad. Reddit is pretty good from my perspective, and a good source for information if you are in the right subs.

I agree with the sentiment that "controversies" need their own separate space. I'm getting tired of seeing them. This is why I deleted my Twitter account. I just couldn't block people fast enough.

Then there is Strahd himself who is presented as being bi-sexual. Pretty important character there.

Yeah. Let's not forget that's where we get Hammurabi's Code and The Epic of Gilgamesh (though it may have come from other, even older sources).

That's around the price of an upsized value meal from the fast food joint of your choice. Pretty damned reasonable and inexpensive for a whole month of entertainment... If that offended anyone then just. Wow.
