Will there ever be new editions of the major systems?

Traveller is a REALLY WEIRD example to use here because it sure changed over the years. I mean its main rule engine was the Twilight: 2000 rules for a while, then GURPS. The fact that it (in the form of Mongoose Traveller) appears to have not changed much is because it came back around to it roots.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

In isolation, this is true. No individual should ever need to defend why they're a one-game gamer. But... gamers are rarely in isolation (aside from computer/console gaming). They have fellow players. If they are all in agreement, again, no problem. They don't owe anybody an explanation or need...

Netflix announces deal to buy WB and HBO

The Netflix offer doesn't include CNN while the Paramount one does. If the Netflix deal were to go through, CNN would have to be spun off along with some other properties not part of the WB/HBO cinema family. Paramount has been negotiating for the whole enchilada. And while traditional news...

Netflix announces deal to buy WB and HBO

Moreover, Paramount has already tanked the integrity of CBS News. How do you think CNN will fare if Paramount ends up with WB?

What's the best die type and why is it the d12?

I like the d12 - mostly because some manufacturers use the dodecahedron to make d4s that won't injure your feet if you step on them.

Four non-D&D games that show the breadth of TTRPGs

Call of Cthulhu - for horror, investigation, and non-leveled character ideas Masks: A New Generation - for superhero genre, narrative game with PbtA-style mechanics James Bond 007 - for alternative and licensed genre emulation Dread - for radically different mechanical options - and definitely...

Netflix announces deal to buy WB and HBO

And, somehow, I don't expect the regulators to be neutral arbiters in all these shenanigans.

Spoilers Stranger Things Season 5 - SPOILERS

There are things I'm noticing about this season. 1) The aging of the kids in the main cast is even more visible than it was 3 years ago. This is perfectly understandable but for some of them the changes are much more noticeable this time. That's neither good nor bad, but it is just a little...

Netflix announces deal to buy WB and HBO

It's far better than Paramount being the buyer. They've already turned CBS News and 60 Minutes into a joke in their pursuit of mergers. They deserve nothing.

D&D General D&D Dungeon Map Design: Good and Bad

I never considered the maps going to a 5 foot scale instead of 10 foot to be much of a consideration. The 5 foot scale on the maps just makes it easier for the DM to translate onto a battle map for playing with tokens/minis. Plus, there are still plenty of maps out there in modules using...

D&D General D&D Dungeon Map Design: Good and Bad

Ah, verisimilitude in setting vs game play - the conflict of the ages within D&D. Do the monsters (or lord of the castle) live in a setting designed to improve their defense or one designed to let PCs use their powers and abilities? I get that this is a game and players want to have fun with...

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

They are not trustworthy because they are powerful. They are powerful because they are trustworthy. That's a repeated element in Lord of the Rings. Morgoth, Sauron, Saruman, Isildur, Denethor, Fëanor, the Sons of Fëanor - all powerful individuals - most of the pre-eminent powers in Middle Earth...

What Does "Simulation" Mean To You? [+]

If a game or, more specifically, a rule or element within the game is simulative I take it to mean that it gives a significant nod toward verisimilitude in how it behaves or its properties, how it works - even if that means there's some imbalance in game play or inconvenience for players. And...

D&D General Which Campaign or Adventure Would You Adapt To Prestige Television?

Age of Worms would make for an interesting series - and with enough variation in environments and events as well as a building conspiracy.
