What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

The problem here is what about the great many tyrant players that are writing their own novel? The DM says the character gets possessed. Then the player just says "whatever DM my character just acts like normal, anyway I want!" Well, okay, then you don't have a game....

What's the hardest attribute to effectively role-play?

I agree, though a great many players want a game like this where the attributes don't matter. Unless, of course, the player wants them to in a positive way. I love this myself. I've made plenty of "Hulk Smash" characters.

    Runes of Hoarfrost

Gromm BigBottle "I'm almost ready. Just need to hammer a few things out. Gather up my stuff. Get my furs. Close out my room at the Inn. Give me two hours. I'll meet you at the south gate." Gromm BigBottle finishes his drink, pays his tavern tab and heads off.

What's the hardest attribute to effectively role-play?

Intelligence is the hardest to role play, as it is nearly impossible to do so in any way. As a player you can take notes to have a perfect memory, but you can't 'use that information intelligently'. No matter what the number is on the sheet, the player still has their mind. Wisdom is second...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

No. But I would guess at least 50% of all players would think so. After all, I run into this all the time. As soon as a player encounters anything they don't like: they cry "railroad". I don't really. I find the whole idea useless. Though I'd point out the DMs that are just mean do stand out.

    Runes of Hoarfrost

Gromm BigBottle "I've been here three rides. I can say not much is running around here. By the Rocks, not to many potion sales. Dry as a desert. For personal combat I have a good strong axe arm. By the Rocks, I got a couple of alchemist booms I can throw. I can handle myself in a fight...

    Runes of Hoarfrost

Gromm BigBottle "Well, it might be about time for me to move on anyways. Can't stay in one place too long. I'm a rolling stone. I don't need much, I'm used to living off the land, not town comforts. How soon did you want to move on? "

D&D General How do you handle Astral travel?

I use the Ye Old 2E mental movement, so you can think yourself to places. Really by mid level things are not "hidden" much......

    Runes of Hoarfrost

Gromm BigBottle "I don't really got any plans to do anything. I just sort of swing on the end of my beard. You going to the capital? Jol? Never been there myself. I traveled along the mountain trails, then just across The Veld. "

Do you go in RAW 100%?

Depends on the game. I play Daggerheart, Marvel Super Heroes, Toon, and Star Trek Adventures RAW. But then they are tiny games with only a couple of rule books, and very little homebrew content out there. They are also short games that don't last very long anyway. Even a "long adventure" is...

    Life path system in-game

I guess the goal is to start the game with a group of players with detailed backstories, character connections with each other, lots of deep lore, connections to the world, immersed in the world, and other things? I'm not sure the "we must play through the prequel, before we can start the game"...

    Runes of Hoarfrost

Gromm BigBottle "Ah, yes there is Truth in the Bottle. I'm guessing your reading a human book on human alchemy. Us dwarves are a bit different. Less fancy stuff, much more practical. I can make rocks into gold....but not good gold, and not for too long. That is much more of a human...

D&D General So how do Half-Elfs feel different to Elfs?

A good elf is otherworldly, alien and not much like a human at all. A good half elf...really like many 'half races'....the big point is to make them half/half of each race....mixed but apart. Spock is the Ur classic example here. And close behind him is: Tanis Half Elven, and eventually Arlyn...

    Runes of Hoarfrost

Gromm BigBottle "Well met. I'm not from anywhere, and no place claims me. My parents were traveling merchants too, with no home. My parents were just Walkers, not the best name. So I took BigBottle as my name. I'm an alchemist, so I wanted something catchy. "

The bottles are all sorts of odd liquids, none that look drinkable or refreshing. Dwarf "Aye and Aye again, I'm a Traveling Merchant. A Rolling Stone. Fell free to sit and put your feet up. I'm Gromm BigBottle. Dwarven alchemist of no small bottle. "

    Runes of Hoarfrost

Only a few dwarves live in Rübendorf, clan less individuals that have few other places it go. So the few in town stand out. After an hour you do find a dwarf sitting at the Wolf and Way tavern. A dwarf in plain furs and plain over all look. With a large clay mug of ale. He has bottles...

D&D General How do you really handle illumination in your games?

I keep the world dark. It's only bright and sunny sometimes. Mostly it is gray cloudy skies, or dark rain clouds. Or, of course, at night. When playing most games, like D&D 2-3E or Old School games, I use the old 'light' rules. So some public places are lit by fires, but not all that many...

It is a cold morning, not that you feel the cold all that much. It's only a couple hours walk to town. Rübendorf is a small, unwalled town, though set up on a slight hill. The town is far more practical then made for any style or beauty. Mostly one story wooden homes, with a few two story...

How does your group handle an absent player?

Most of the time the PC just "fades away" or otherwise is just not there and not around. They "go fishing" or do some other such thing. Sometimes, another player will take control of the PC and then play "two PCs" for the game. It is rare for me to take control of the PC, but I do it...

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

My default is always the girmdark world does not really like the PCs. The PCs are look upon as "necessary evils" at best. People on the edge of civilized society that are needed from time to time....but are not welcome in society. This goes even more so for PCs that are not 'standard'. Of...
