What videogames are you playing in 2026?

I haven't been keeping up with the redesign, but I know one issue with the game as it originally released was that you couldn't really do that Skyrim-style aimlessly wandering around doing stuff and avoiding the main quest to more than a limited degree, because at some point you'd have...

The Fifth Element Returning to Theaters

I know you meant individually, but now I've got an image in my head of someone in Leeloo's white top and orange rubber bracers, sporting Ruby's hairdo, makeup and mic cane. Presumably with a double-sided multipass.

    What's your perfect movie

It's good but a little simplistic. Top Gun Maverick, on the other hand, feels finely-crafted to deliver the best possible experience, its early acts introducing and defining its characters while also providing the audience with so perfect a roadmap for the actual mission to come that they aren't...

Lances were designed to shatter and be disposable?

One thing to bear in mind with a lance is that the optimal successful outcome of using one in combat is to leave an entire armoured human or possibly a horse impaled upon it, and once that happens you as the rider are going to need to let go of it pretty promptly or else you're not going to be...

    What's your perfect movie

Terminator 2: Judgement Day. I know it's a sequel and therefore hard to consider on its own, but the ways it builds upon the original to create something better and more complete is part of its perfection.

    The Mandalorian & Grogu Trailer

Wait, Yodas are Gremlins? That explains why we've never seen more than a couple of them. The Mogwai are actually Ewoks, and Yoda, Yaddle and Grogu are the handful of them who've eaten after midnight.

Why aren't megacorps as big a part of Steampunk as they are of Cyberpunk?

A big aspect is that megacorps are effectively colonising their own host nations too. Entire cities are corporate-owned, along with large tracts of farmland and mining towns, to the extent of something approaching sovereignty. In some works this is taken to an extreme, such as in Snow Crash...

Why aren't megacorps as big a part of Steampunk as they are of Cyberpunk?

Eberron's dragonmarked houses aren't a bad example if you want to get megacorp-ish in your Steampunk setting. They do still have at least some government / nobility ties in most cases and mostly aren't as overtly amoral as your standard corp, but they're nevertheless up for some shady stuff...

    Your most pointless TV/movie/book nitpicks

This really is a pointlessly small nitpick about a fairly old movie, but in The Mummy Returns, the scene where they're racing to get into the pyramid before the sun hits it. They're racing ahead of this wave of oncoming daylight on the ground, and dive in just at the last moment just as the...

Moya, ‘the World’s First Biomimetic Robot’ Emulates Human Features Down to Body Temperature

Waiting for the time a 'person' is found collapsed in a hospital corridor, and staff spend half an hour trying everything to revive them only to find that they just needed a reboot.

Why aren't megacorps as big a part of Steampunk as they are of Cyberpunk?

I can't say I ever really saw the steampunk genre as predominantly optimistic. More like, it was cynical about different things. And then there's Shadowrun.

Why aren't megacorps as big a part of Steampunk as they are of Cyberpunk?

Steampunk evokes the traits of the actual Victorian era, and that was a time of great empires and political machinations. Corporations exist in service of the Crown, or its equivalent. It's also an era of great invention and innovation, where the ideas of a few people can drive large-scale...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

Making Rime of the Frostmaiden as an Icewind Dale sequel would work well from a marketing perspective, and the early to mid game has a decently open sandbox quality to it. The last couple of chapters might need some work to break up the two-long-dungeonsness of it all.

What videogames are you playing in 2026?

Plus there's no soulslike "bonfire" system that has you constantly backtracking, it uses a standard console-style checkpoint system, and a generous one at that - I don't think I was ever set back by more than a minute or so of gameplay after dying in a fight.
