100 Problems that aren't solved by violence alone

To throw a twist, steal from the Supernatural hostage episode. One of the hostages is a shapeshifter and the hostage-taker is a good guy npc trying to kill the shapeshifter.

Ever had a player in your group throw a tantrum or worse? Most uncomfortable moment?

When the DM's sister confronted her exboyfriend at the table about his illegitimate love-child with his new girlfriend. Awkward...very awkward.

[Game Design] Will Wright on Story and Game

I want to run a player-directed game, but usually when I start to, they tend to stare at me with blank looks. GM: "So...what do you want to do?" Players: "Um, we're waiting for the train. Even got a ticket."

Are Druids regarded as the most powerful class in 3.5?

They are certainly the biggest drain on time in a game. Imagine the 3rd combat turn of a Druid who has cast 2 Nature Allies and then shapeshifts. If he summons multiples, he could have up to 6 creatures to run and then he gets to attack with his shifted form AND his pet. We had a game with a...

A Song of Ice & Fire RPG -- update

Great News. For myself, I'm hoping that it is a new system, as the GoO version left a lot to be desired.

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

Well, for my own game, I would ban the Big Six and roll those bonuses into the character's themselves. Most magic items would come directly from adventuring and not available for purchase. This is actually what my PCs prefer. (If they want something special, they usually tell me and either...

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

Is the Vow of Poverty in the Book of Exalted Deeds? I would like to get the breakdown of the feat, but I really have no interest in that particular book.

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

Klaus- Great idea...fixing the system on the backend instead of forcing changes for the players.

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

Exactly Delericho. Yeah, should probably change it to big four. Its those items specifically that Im talking about. And in the case of Magic Armor and Weapons, I'm talking about enhancement bonuses. I would keep the special abilities (Flaming, Shock, Fortification, Energy Resistance etc) for...

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

That was the intent, to keep the power level of the game the same, but simply remove those items types. As a GM, I find it annoying that I have to keep track of bland items that are simply there to increase the PC's power so they can handle the CRs as they level. It adds nothing to the game...

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

Kamikaze Midget...very nice list, but wouldnt you want to possibly break it down by class? The reason I suggest it is that some classes wouldn't necessarily want the same bonuses. (For instance, a cloth caster is probably not going to need the AC/BAB mods)

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

Excellent ideas. Would it break any licenses or rules for us to start doing this right now, in this thread? One idea I had for a guideline was to use the gear listing for NPCs in the PHB2. That already breaks down the classes and what they purchase is almost exclusively the Big Six. Take...

How to use 3.5 DnD without the "Big Six"

As a spinoff of the Andy Collins Design and Development thread. For this thread, Im assuming that you want to eliminate the Big Six. What changes would you need to make to accomplish this without lowering the power level of the game?

Worst miniature paint job evAr! Get it off the table!

I would be more concerned with how he played the game than what mini he used. Sounds like a pretty creative guy from the description of the mini, although he put his energy into rebelling against the rule instead of adhering to it. I would love to see it.

    Villain Motivations

If the villian's motivations are in conflict with a PC's motivation, then they will remember it. If not, they are just another obstacle, so you should go for crunch.

    Tabletop Aids

Mechanical Pencils...not only do they write, but invariably, they are all 6" long. Perfect for measuring 30' on a battlemat. (the day we discovered this, there was great rejoicing)

    Adjudicating Illusions

That was my reasoning, that the desired effect fit the confines of the spell, so I allowed it. However, i did rule that the soldiers all looked exactly the same and moved in coordination. So, that actually led to it being less believable than a single soldier. (but i didnt apply any...

    Adjudicating Illusions

Thanks Gog, those articles are a good guideline. I need to review the spell a little more carefully, since he uses it often.
