    (Netflix) K-POP DEMON HUNTERS

I watched it with my GF - we liked it and we still catch each other humming the songs, but I thought it was a bit overhyped. It was ok and entertaining, but once the freshness of the premise cooled off it felt like a very traditional tropey story and movie. I liked some of the visual gags...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

That sounds such an awesome session and IMO special achievments like that are definitely worth bonus XP! I also really like the bonus XP for confirming secrets as truth or myths/lies, I will steal that!

D&D 5E (2014) Ben Riggs talks to Richard Baker. Phandelver in 2018 alone sold 300k copies.

I have run it twice and I also think its quite generic. The villain is quite bland and badly introduced. The NPCs are boring for the most part. But the single chapters are good well-designed adventures, I think thats why its quite the good introduction. My favorite part to run was Thundertree...

What is a West Marches game?

Off-topic, but Mystic Arts truly is one of the best newcomers to TTRPG content creator scene. I really dig his videos. A lot is "basic training" for DMs, but presented in such a good way that even as an experienced DM its just a joy to watch. And you still get to know some new tricks, at least...

D&D General Tucker's Kobolds: worth using in 5e?

My anwer was also not about Tucker specifically, but you asking when do you stop overtuning the encounter via "non-CR" methods. I also don't think you should modifiying the CR, because these tactics are not really making a mathematical mapping possible. You just have to use CR as starting base...

D&D General Tucker's Kobolds: worth using in 5e?

whenever you want? When its good enough? There are no holy rules about tuning encounters, you do what you think what is best for your game. If you think your players enjoy the challenge of kobolds being very tactical with their traps, do it. If you think your players prefer simple hack n slash...

What are you reading in 2025?

This how it was always for me. I like listen to podcasts etc, but fiction audiobooks I just cant stand. I don't know if it is the same for you, but I think its because the narration takes too much away from my own imagination.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I would love a new action economy and overworked math, especially less HP bloat. Anything that makes combat more fluid and faster too. New resource management like slot or pip inventory or anything else that makes resource management worthwile again, because IMO its needed for exploration...

What is a West Marches game?

I am planning to run a Shadowdark West Marches game starting in Autumn and are very excited to see a big D&D streamers take on it. Of course the whole scheduling idea is irrelevant to them, but I am very excited to see how they bring this sandbox game and different player groups together.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

You can always take the new mechanics and use old flavor and lore. A new take is needed so we don't gloat all the time in old creations that are getting reheated and -hashed without any new influence. I will always prefer new takes over repetition and never understand how fandoms enjoy wallowing...

What are you reading in 2025?

Read "The Looking Glass War" by John Le Carre. Ooph, this was a tough read. I think this is a bit underrated because it is more difficult to read than "The Spy from the Cold" and has less dramatic and theatralic story beats. Its probably one of the most realistic books of Le Carre according to...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

This is precisely what I thought the common definition to railroading. I was confused when OP stated there was no definition. Using that definition, railroading is not a playstyle but a bad DM practice that often but not exclusively appears in the playstyle of linear games. Linear games are an...

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

I just think its boring storytelling to have ALL people from one civiliation to be evil. I prefer villains/factions that are enemies of the party because of their actions, not because of their skin/hair color. I always thought that this is common sense, but posts like these show that people...

What are you reading in 2025?

Its fascinating how widespread the damages done by the pandemic are. Every few weeks I learn about another consequence of the pandemic, even years later. Anway, thats interesting to read, I guess I will skip on that one too. But very looking forward to Broken Earth and her upcoming work.

What are you reading in 2025?

That is good to hear that Broken Earth is better because I already loved the city we became! Thought it was indeed a clever concept and fun read. My main gripe was when I remember correctly that the lovecraftian aspect didn't really work for me somehow although I loved the whole lovecraftian...

    Shadowdark Finally Played Shadowdark

I thought I was done with this thread but this is hilarious. You really think all the people who enjoy shadowdark are not actually playing the game, but just sitting around in a tavern? You really think the multitude of people enjoying this game actually not playing this is more probable than...

What are you reading in 2025?

Yes, I think you nailed it with the reasoning here. It feels like she had the plot before the world and than just designed it to fit. The funny thing is - the characters are not even all like that simple, it just get repeated very often. Sentences similar to "typical to a raven, she did this" or...

What are you reading in 2025?

So I have finished "The Raven Scholar" by Antonia Hodgson! I think its quite the long time ago that I consumed a 700 page book that fast, it honestly felt more like 400 pages. Expertly paced, well plotted, intricate worldbuilding, interesting characters - this book has it all. I love how...

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

Thats quite the accusation and I am pretty sure its not true. Same as Brian Johnson does not hate Star Wars. But fans tend to project a lot when the relationship with their beloved franchise is disrupted. I was originally quite disinterested in the Cosmere RPG because I first heard about it...
