D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

The main reason is that most campaigns don't last long and most campaigns start at level 1 or 3. Because that is THE fantasy of D&D, from Zero to Hero. Seeing your character grow from a weak fighter to a mighty hero. Most people don't want to start at level 12. In theory almost everybody loves...

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

DnD Beyond manages all my other stuff via google login though. My saved combat encounters, my campagin settings, my characters, my maps, all other configurations. I don't think thats the reason, they just want people to move away from other accounts. I had not much interest in 3D-VTTs anyway...

D&D General Do You Use "D&D" As Code For "RPGs"?

Yes. Easier to communicate to folks outside the hobby. They just get confused when I say "Shadowdark" or "TTRPG".

Dimension 20 Crosses Over With WWE For New Season

Dimension 20 don't stop with surprising me with every new season. I love this concept and look forward it so much! Btw according to their FAQ the season will have 4 episodes and the next season is confirmed to be the main cast again (fans hope for Starstruck Odysee season 2)

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Currently in the final hours of Metaphor: Refantazio. Great JRPG! (I hope that Persona 6 finally gets announced this year). I am torn what to play next, there is too much on the plate and not enough freetime. I wish games would get shorter again. Currently I am torn between Nier 1 Remake...

    D&D 5E (2024) Why are you still playing D&D?

I voted Convenience (also in terms of availability of additional content), but I also just like the game. Its a good game. I don't like when people try to frame it as a bad game. Is it my favorite game? Thats probably Shadowdark at the moment, but it is a good game and fun to play. This plus how...

D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone at WOTC paying attention to what they print any more?

I would bet money on this being the story behind it or something similar. I will do CON save. Probably will get fixed in future errata.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Nope, that was not my conclusion to the rules and I also don't think that is RAI because its silly. But I am not interested in repeating the same arguments and points. The fact that this is the second big discussion definitely proves thouth that they utterly failed in making these rules clear...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

I've decoded the rules in that other thread. They work they are just incredibly convoluted and badly spelled out. I don't understand how you manage to make the stealth rules even more confusing than in 2014 where they already lead often to confusion. I agree that they absolutely failed to make...

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

Ok but can you clarify why? Especially the rude part - again I am not trying to judge or belittle people for not being able to handle their emotions - I think its normal. I fail to do so myself, rarely in reading but more so in personal matters. If there are better choice of words/terms than...

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

Ok it seems I pissed you off - I was trying to clear up that I DON'T judge people on their emotional responses. I was just saying that IMO you cannot put feelings aside when reading and either you can handle the feelings coming up while reading or you don't. Thats what I understand under...

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

I did not state otherwise, I certainly get annoyed myself by those tropes - but its a difference for me if you stop reading these because these are just bad writing practices or if you get an overwhelming emotional response because of that. I was talking about the latter. But I have the feeling...

    How often do you play?

I have multiple games that run every 3 weeks or less, so it kinda comes down to bi-weekly.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING | Super Bowl Trailer (2025)

Excited for it. The MI series is my favorite modern action franchise. Tom Cruise is a nutjob and I honestly feel always very conflicted because he is part of what is in my eyes just a plain criminal organization that uses religion as a facade - but I can't help myself watching these movies. I...

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

Not enjoying something is not what I interpreted when reading "putting your feelings aside". I interpreted this as "I feel mad or angry or sad or other negative feelings because of what author or characters are saying and thus can't read it anymore". If emotions have a grip on you like that...

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

I don't think its possible to put aside feelings when reading. Reading is not a robotic process. Its not like making laundry. If you want to truly understand a text you need to somehow reflect on it and to reflect on the text you need to evaluate the feelings the text invokes in you. But if one...

    D&D 5E (2014) A death save house rule proposal

I solved the whack-a-mole thing by not letting the players go unconscious on 0 HP. They can crawl 5 ft per round and use one action OR one bonus-action, no reaction. Only after two failed death saves they become unconscious for their potential last rolls. Getting hit is still an additional...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

As I said "depending on game". But yeah, my Shadowdark game should NOT feel like the characters are overpowered like superheroes. But I had once a short 5e campaign where the characters were actual demigods and I had additional mechanics to protect from death (but infuse dramatic narrative in...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

So you agree it depends on game and setting and expectations?

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

Ignoring the annoying tongue in cheek tone about younger audience I would say: Depends on game and context. I enjoy both underpowered "survival" games and overpowered "superhero" games. I think even in one game its good to vary between easy and hard challenges.
