    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I think its human nature to seek conscious decisions behind random occurence and its probably linked to the human brains strong ability of pattern recognition. I admire your ability to play with such players who behave like childs and accuse you of lying. This would be for me the last time I...

Critical Role Announces 2026 Live Tour Dates, Three Shows in Europe

Yes, I hope he finds love in his new passion! But Dimension 20 is in good hands, if D20: On a Bus is an indicator about what is going to happen.

Critical Role Announces 2026 Live Tour Dates, Three Shows in Europe

holy moly, they have a show in Berlin... I think I have to go! I traveled to Glasgow last year to see Dimension20 live (and I even talked with Brennan Lee Mulligan afterwards in a Fish&Chips store!). It was totally worth it, but Critical Role coming to my hometown feels like a fever dream.

    Why do the Actors Matter?

This reminds me of the discussion of the new cast for the Harry Potter HBO series. They get so much hate online (how sad your life is when you attack child actors online) because they look so different from the OG crew - but honestly they look much more like I imagined them in the books...

What are you reading in 2025?

Ok the greek gods are one thing, if some people still believe in them, but I never saw anyone refer to Homers Odyseey as a Holy Scripture. He was not a prophet, but a poet and just wrote down an epic about famous oral tradition story. But even if, I never saw someone refer to any other Holy...

What are you reading in 2025?

I am very curious to read THAT definition of non-fiction, because I never heard of the Odyssey being refered as non-fiction and I am curious how such definition would describe interactions with gods, witches and mythical beasts not as fictional. Will someone call LOTR in 2000 years non-fiction?

What are you reading in 2025?

My mother was pretty strict with buying me new toys and stuff, I could beg as I wanted in a store, she never just spontaneously bought me something I wanted - with one exception: books. That was her one rule, if I wanted a book, she bought it. Or got it from the library. I had my first own...

What are you reading in 2025?

Nothing beats the joy out of reading than being forced to do it in school/college. I cannot speak for James Joyce -have him on my reading list for a long time, but didn't dare to read it for the reasons you stated. Although I can enjoy art that confuses me. But Dostoyevsky is definitely not...

D&D General DMs, how do you handle 'split party' situations?

Or just sit in the same room and be amazed by what the other part of the party does. Enjoy the story. I just switch back and forth between them. I absolutely do not care about metagaming in this instance (and most others). Only exception could be when e.g. there is some pvp element to it...

What are you reading in 2025?

Which Dostoyevsky has too? He is definitely not just flourishy sentences - you don't get to so much fame and influence when you are just writing flourishy sentences without any meaning. Anyway Lin Carter is on my catch up list and I am looking forward to it. I need this switch, i need...

    Sinners (2025)

I would say if something has the horror genre as a meta component like horror comedies often do without scaring the audience, its still under the main bucket of horror. Because if the horror genre would not exist, these movies would also not exist. Scare and fear is the core emotion of horror...

    Sinners (2025)

But Horror is IMO always at least a partial genre if your main conflict is about fighting vampires. Even if its a horror comedy, its still horror.

    Sinners (2025)

Most good horror movies have social commentary, because they reflect what makes us in modern societies anxious, what do we feat etc. The plot completely resolves around the vampires, its clearly a vampire movie. The vampire is the main antagonist. Horror movies have fear as main emotion and...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps - Official Teaser Trailer (2025)

I think I've read somewhere that popcorn is the product with the highest markup right after bottled water (bottled water is especially absurd because most brands have basically just tap water in terms of water quality and minerals)

D&D 5E (2014) Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

I never understood this. For the me best a character tries is represented by his ability score plus proficiency score. The dice represent the external circumstances, luck, the weather whatever. For me a character doesnt' need to change something or at least nothing meaningful. In case of opening...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

If they just can roll again until they succeed without any cost the roll doesnt matter, not just in my mind, but as a matter of fact. But when I know that the roll doesn't matter I don't even let them roll, so the players don't even know they could've had a huge satisfaction from a nat 20 or...

    Sinners (2025)

I absolutely loved it. It tried a bit too much at once ( ), but it was so full of creative directing, editing, camera choices, this move felt INSPIRED. I also loved the slow build up in the first half, made me care about the characters when the catastrophe happens. I loved the music and the...
