Keeping Track of Time (In Game)

Yes, good addition. With time tracking its always easy to let consequence follow to failures.

What are you reading in 2026?

I feel when the movie is more popular as the book its always a sign of that happening. Like when people don't even know its based on a book - the movie probably is better. Not a guarantee, but often it is like that. Another example that comes to mind is "Fight Club". I did enjoy the movie much...

Spoilers A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Not up do date with third episode, just wanted to chime in that I enjoyed the second episode much more and start to be invested in the characters and Duncans participation in the tournament. I really enjoy the low stakes.

What are you reading in 2026?

Its insane how much better I feel since I strictly limit the addictive social media and my news consumption and other information flooders. Our brains are not made for this overwhelming amounts of incoming information. Australia did the right thing with banning social media for children.

Cosmere picked up by Apple TV

haha no, in Murderbot his internal thoughts and meanderings are quite important and most importantly: entertaining! The inner monologues in Sanderson are rarely entertaining and mostly frustrating ( to me at least )

Cosmere picked up by Apple TV

Based on what you post here, I would assume you have much more interesting thoughts than Shallan. wait what? what is this about? I tried to google it but couldnt find anything This sounds really promising - I am excited for it! in 2030 if we're lucky :D

Keeping Track of Time (In Game)

Yes I always use time tracking. I think its quite important to give meaning to players actions. I not always have time pressure in an ultimate sense, but at least consequences via events happening when amount of time passes. On exploring unknown wilderness or a city I use just abstract shifts...

Cosmere picked up by Apple TV

you already show hints of that in the book megathread 2025 and if you'd decide to do that, I sign up as a feedback reader haha! Interestingly one of my main critiques of his prose is that his voice of character feel not unique, most of his characters talk the same. Although I wouldn't say the...

Cosmere picked up by Apple TV

Great news, I think apple is the best pick! I think Sandersons work is perfect for TV adaption because his strengths can shine (plotting, action, character interactions) while his weaknesses are mainly of literate nature IMO (I really dislike his prose, especially the internal monologues of his...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

But LR classes are not affected by short rests. If they don't need it in your games -> it seems exactly the imbalance I am talking about.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

IMO ease of LR is super overlooked by many DM. The complete game balance is heavily influenced by resting. If you don't use long rests as intented some classes definitely get much stronger than others. Difficulty per se isn't affected as long as the players can have influence on the moment to...

Taylor Navarro Joins Wizards of the Coast as D&D Designer

Your original post claimed it was bad writing. But it turned out, its just not your taste. I personally thought that many adventures in the book were quite well designed (not all of course). In general I appreciate all the new faces and designers. I want something fresh. If I want to play old...

    Does anyone have Kickstarter regrets?

I disagree a bit here - the adventure materials is indeed easy to convert, thats why I will plunder it probably. But the full game needs more work because of the very distinct species and magic systems. At least thats what it looked like to me on a first glance, admittedly I did not do a deep...

    Where Complexity Belongs

Excellent examples! I want to add the system analysis perspective: Complication is defined by the structure of a system and its quantity - how many parts are there and how many layers and subsystems, how many steps does a process have. Complexity is defined by the behaviour of a system and the...

    Where Complexity Belongs

I agree with you. Decisions should not be simple, but it doesnt mean it needs to be complex. If a decision between two simple options is hard for you, its not a simple decision. The options themselves might be simple, but the decision is not. I am not saying that "ingame" gameplay decisions...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

As a German... no, thats so bad. Reminds me of the funny German names from the anime "Frieren" (german for freezing). The characters have German first names with hilarious meanings "heaven", "far", "fork", "being". Which is funny because a lot of 5e products I learned about also didn't feel...

    Where Complexity Belongs

I personaly like the complexity to be not there when you need to decide fast at the table and more in the "backend" - character creation and building etc.

    Does anyone have Kickstarter regrets?

I have to admit, I regret a little bit backing Dolmenwood - I backed one of the big collectors packs because I thought it looked amazing and I loved OSE at that point. Unfortunately in the meantime I learned to love Shadowdark... And I will still probably rip content from Dolmenwood, because it...

The Running Man | Official Trailer

tbf ARPANET existed long before Stephen King wrote the book and modern protocols that we still use today like TCP and ICMP were specified in 1981. Radio was already an old technology at this point, private/small scale radio networks were already a goal/wish, the technology wasn't ready yet (too...

D&D General Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics: Why DPR Isn't the Stat to Rule them All

I absolutely agree and I am extremely annoyed about DPR as main focus in a lot of discussions. Even if you focus on combat and leave out all the other aspects of D&D DPR only makes sense... for characters in damage dealing roles. Thats how we end up with "monks are super bad", but when I played...
