    D&D 5E (2014) A death save house rule proposal

I solved the whack-a-mole thing by not letting the players go unconscious on 0 HP. They can crawl 5 ft per round and use one action OR one bonus-action, no reaction. Only after two failed death saves they become unconscious for their potential last rolls. Getting hit is still an additional...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

As I said "depending on game". But yeah, my Shadowdark game should NOT feel like the characters are overpowered like superheroes. But I had once a short 5e campaign where the characters were actual demigods and I had additional mechanics to protect from death (but infuse dramatic narrative in...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

So you agree it depends on game and setting and expectations?

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

Ignoring the annoying tongue in cheek tone about younger audience I would say: Depends on game and context. I enjoy both underpowered "survival" games and overpowered "superhero" games. I think even in one game its good to vary between easy and hard challenges.

Twitter Alternatives and Social Media Changes

I already deleted instagram app from my phone and due to recent news I think I will delete my Insta/FB accounts for good now. In general I don't use a lot of modern social media anymore, because I realized its brainrot inducing. (at least for my brain)

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Yes it seems some people forget that public playtests are not the only playtests.

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Hot take: Only problems that will arise are relevant for a minority of players who care about official lore continuity. The rest just continue to run it however they want at their tables. It will be a fart in the wind and in 10 years or more historic articles and videos will have "remember when...

Shadowdark: tips for a new GM?

I love the real time torches. Its an inherent device to push players to decide quickly and not discuss everything to dead without the DM needing to moderate. It also means that torches are NOT always exactly and conviently one hour long in in-game time because the amount of turns that the party...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Its so funny what people are getting mad about. What major problems can this bring? If for some reason you need Gith to be humanoid so they can get enslaved by Slaad or Mindflayers or for any other reason you say in session zero "For all intents and purposes, in this game Gith are considered to...

D&D 5E (2024) How Important Is The Lore

For D&D specific monsters like Beholders I agree with you. But there is no need for boring default lore for orcs and dragons. Do some more exciting stuff. And the 3 kids who never read any fantasy related before starting D&D - they just get a new default lore. No harm done. Thats at least my...

D&D 5E (2024) How Important Is The Lore

I think the lore glossary in DMG is nice. The lore in MM is a bit bland from what I've seen. I am not in favor for the "generic lore" - because I already know all generic lore for known fantasy creatures. If I want generic lore I just use the wellknown tropes, no need to print them again. I...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

1 - I just don't give a ratshit about them. Changes I like I introduce in my games, changes I don't like I don't introduce to my games. They provide some of many sources of inspiration for my TTRPG hobby. edit: and just in general I try to not let corporations have a grip on my emotions...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards have a problem with Spellcasting stat blocks

I am not thinking they should start doing that, I was just clearing up that its not a full copy of a spell which is not one line but one paragraph. Big difference. I personally copy statblocks in my notes and I insert this stuff in them if I don't know the spell by heart. So I would have...

What are you reading in 2025?

Speaking of which, I finally got the ebook from my library - I've never read it! And it was an unknown book to me. For some reason Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is not very well known in Germany and it surprised me to learn that it is appereantly quite the classic - and its 20 years old! It was...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards have a problem with Spellcasting stat blocks

Thats not the full text for every spell. The spell text for guiding bolt ist not "4d6 radiant dmg + 1d6 radiant dmg per level above first, on hit next attack on target has advantage". Spell descriptions are much more verbose than that. So no, they were not saying that the monster manual should...

    D&D 5E (2024) Polygon takes shots at WotC & D&D

Editorial staff does not consists of a single journalist with a single opinion. Go to NYTimes and you will find also "contradicting" pieces like that.

    D&D 5E (2024) Polygon takes shots at WotC & D&D

I loved polygon a few years ago, but quality of their articles really went down. I still like some of their stuff, especially on YT - but more for entertainment factor and less for quality journalism.

    Darkvision Ruins Dungeon-Crawling

Thats not true for most systems. Light sources usually come with a cost, dark vision rarely. Dark vision removes one layer of resource management. Resource management is a core principle of good dungeon crawl systems IMO. It forces the players to make decisions. Without resource management the...

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

Ah yes, exceptional, fantastical ecology: What if they are female only?!? Amazing! /s Personally I find the idea of gender fluid dryads much more exceptional and fantastical. But that is only a taste, like yours. Good thing, now not only your taste has official artwork, but mine got better...

D&D 5E (2024) 2025 Monster Manual All You Need to Know video link is up.

How do you know what the typical DMs need? Because both me and DM I personally knew rarely build new monsters, we prefer to pick from the catalogue. Maybe some adjustments. But that is of course also just anecdotical evidence ;)
