    Grognard view of One D&D?

I guess technically speaking I'm a grognard. I never fully understood the appellation though. I'm old. I played D&D and AD&D1e when they were new. Does that automatically make me a Grognard? D&D lost me in 2e. Part of this was the mess that was their core books. Part of this was all the kitchen...

RPG Crowdfunding News – The Weird, Wastes of Chaos, Coyote & Crow, and more

Darn it, Egg!!!! Have you no sympathy for my wallet at all???? Now, The Weird and the new Historica Arcanum I was already in. I'm a Certified Monte Cook Drooling Fanboy, and I love the first Historica Arcanum book A LOT, so had to grab that one. But you, Egg, are responsible for all the...

Use Your Old CCGs To Power Your RPGs

I've been doing this for years. Heck, almost the only use I've gotten out of CCGs has been props in my RPGs. In 1997, I attended my one and only GenCon. I hit Atlas' booth, and they had this deal on "On the Edge" cards. And the guy was telling about this game. I'd played and loved "Over the...

RPG Crowdfunding News – HEROES OF CERULEA, Deadlands, Starlight Arcana, and more

Me too. I've basically been all in on everything they've done for the Numenera RPG, or the Cypher brand. The system still give me minor fits (My stats are my resource! Must... hoard....), but the setting fluff, the worldbuilding, the gonzo "One Billion Years..." I love it.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Seriously. Through all the years of the Satanic Panic and all the talk about how it ruins your prospects when people learn you're a gamer, through all the negative associations created by the media to sell newspapers, I never once faltered. I'm a gamer, and always will be. And then GamerGate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Favourite Homebrew Classes

I will check that out. It's worth some tinkering if I can get usable copies of some of these. ETA: It works. Issues in Firefox, but on Chrome-based Vivaldi it comes out fine... although I'd stopped using Vivaldi because of a weird quirk where printing to PDF somehow makes the file size...

    D&D 5E (2014) Favourite Homebrew Classes

I love a lot of stuff on GM Binder, but I can't use any of it. I've never figured out why, but when I print or print to PDF, it always becomes an unusable mess. Word run off the page, I lose information... But reading on the site, there's a lot of creativity in our extended community.

New 13th Age 'Escalation Edition' Coming Next Year!

I'm torn. I'm a big fan of the epic, a big believer that PCs should be the HEROES of the story, and lover of all the games that let this happen. 13th Age is a great example of this. But... well... Rob Heinsoo was... awful to someone I know.... Someone who worked for him. He doesn't deserve my...

    D&D General "I make a perception check."

I'm constantly have to remind my player to provide an action, and I will tell them which, if any ability to roll. Mostly they will ask instead of declare, but that's as annoying.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Little Help With a Convention Game

I love this idea. Consider it stolen for my own nefarious ends. For convention one shots, I've always loved to dole out decent one-use items. Potions with strong effects, scrolls, etc. One time (it wasn't a D&D game but this would translate nicely), a signet ring which marked the bearer as...

Tell me about your character's shenanigans.

And if the answer is YES, but you're the GM, then that's fine. :D

Who Shot Elminster? No, It's the DALLAS RPG!

As a kid, I attended a local convention in Seattle. 1979 or 1980, I think. Saturday morning, the director came into the lobby of the dorm we were using, shouting "Who wants a free game???" Many hands went up and he reach into this large box and started throwing copies of... Dallas. It turns...

Has anyone got any flak for buildung a character that wasnt optimized?

What is "NPC" in this context? And why is that person you're quoting still allowed out in polite society? On topic, yes. Not to the extent of the [redacted] piece(s) of [redacted] above. My group jeered when I made a Halfling Not-a-Thief (Waaaay back in AD&D 1e days). Another time a party of...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Lore of the Traditions, Vulcania, Stonewall 1969, and more

Lore of the Traditions - I really, really want to want this. But I'm still waiting for my Technocratic hardcover (and I know all the reasons behind the delays and I know they're not that long in the grand scheme of things, but still... we're not even playing Mage anymore...). This would be...
