D&D General Turgenev's Friday Freebie Maps

Nice. I'll send something this weekend. It's a location of some importance in my newest game, so I wanted it mapped for my use in Roll20, and... well... I am terrible and have no patience. :)

Critical Role PSA: You are not Matt Mercer

Heck yeah. Okay, the drinking problem was a joke I tried to play off. But many people become upset when we fall short. Work, play, life, it doesn't matter. If I run a session which is an utter disaster and it's my fault? Yes, I will be that upset. I haven't fallen THAT far short in a long...

Do you take commissions? Or... ideas? I have something I'd like mapped and I suck too hard to do my own.

Critical Role PSA: You are not Matt Mercer

I do think the GM has a slightly larger share of the responsibility. He has more control, after all. But yes, the GM is a player, and every player owes the group their best efforts to keep things fun. I think most of us get that upset on occasion. The trick is to get past it, get some...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Torchbearer, Dragon Fighters, Terrain Books, and more

Stop doing these! You're making me spend all my fun money!

Critical Role PSA: You are not Matt Mercer

Angry Old Man is my default setting. But I do an... enthusiastic Scots, a vaugely Slavic Slavic accent, and a simply fantastic "I want you to think I'm German" accent. I also do a decent southern accent but that's from time spent in the south as a youth.

Critical Role PSA: You are not Matt Mercer

Trouble is, I'm one of those old geezers. Of course, people are free to use whatever criteria they like in choosing a game to join. But "Just in case X" is a terrible reason. "Oh, I don't want to join your game because there might be [whatever], instead of "Hey does this game have [whatever]?"...

Critical Role PSA: You are not Matt Mercer

I'm with you on the streaming. No, thanks. For my money, having read up on it, if the Mercer Effect inspires players to let go a little, to try that accent even though accents aren't your thing, to compose a little song, to describe a stupidly over the top action, then all to the good. Let...

Critical Role PSA: You are not Matt Mercer

I ran into a weird variation of this problem when I first offered my game. As mentioned before, it's set in Tal'Dorei. A prospective player worried I might be trying to imitate Mercer and warned me against trying and to be wary of the Mercer Effect. His approach was as some old hand talking to a...

Critical Role [+] What does Wildemount do that Forgotten Realms doesn't?

I became a fan of the world when I joined a game set in Tal'Dorei (the setting of Critical Role's first series). The GM used a lot of the history, and explained where he got it from. I started listening to the podcast (I know they're on Twitch, but it's easier to listen to a podcast at work and...

The Fumble: Game Master Secretly Plotting Against Online Players Who Don't Use Their Mute Button

The majority of my gaming was already online, so I won't count it. The group my wife and son and daughter are in, and another group my son is in, and another group my daughter is in, have all moved online.

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

I traded some games on the forums I used to frequent so get a look at the core 4e books. Read 'em, traded them forward.

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

When 3.0 came out, I'd already stopped playing D&D. BUT... one of my favorite game authors at the time (Tweet) had been hired to work on 3.0, AND my brother worked for WotC. So, when he gave me basically all the books for Christmas, I gave 'em a read. I liked some of the changes I saw, but I'd...

    Satanic Panic = 60 minutes D&D special ( 1985)

This is where I ended up a few years after becoming a dad. She's still responsible for her actions, but I can see how losing your child, especially to suicide, would screw you up all over. I nearly lost my daughter and I was a mental case for the hours she was in surgery.

D&D 5E (2014) [5e] Are classes too generic? (Read the OP before answering)

I dunno if this helps, but in another thread someone mentions and recommended "Hidden Oddities: A Witches Primer." I peeked at it on DriveThru, then bought it. It's an awesome book, well written, nicely illustrated, and all about a new class for 5th Ed: Witch. It's a very nice take on the...

    AD&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

I transitioned into 2nd edition when it came out, and at first I loved it. But 2nd edition was also what ultimately sent me looking for other games to play. I was still young, not super experienced. With the three core books... well, two books and a massive binder... I had a lot of fun. But...

How to avoid RPG dumpster fires like the Far Verona controversy

Arguing over what counts as a trigger is the true strawman here. Saying the behavior didn't count as triggering distracts from the behavior itself. Further, you or I don't get to decide whether anyone in that game was triggered, or to what extent. There's not always visible signs. So any...
