Grading the Cortex Plus and Cortex Prime System

I've never played Cortex. I backed Cortex Prime, but by the time it came out I'd moved on. Haven't even read it.

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

Summoning bothers me, though I think that's more on me and my never taking that into account. Spells that bypass mystery bother me. They probably shouldn't, but I get annoyed when someone uses magic to detect or identify anything. I'm trying to be mysterious over here! I know, I need to get...

    G/N/S epiphany

Speaking purely from a statistical point of view and from no personal knowledge, on a more-probable-than-not-basis, I'm old enough to be your grandfather. :)

    G/N/S epiphany

This is why you should read to the end of the thread. This thread is old enough to vote in the US, and all the comments I'd reply to are too.

Freebies, Sales, and Charity Bundles for January 28, 2024

You have to pay close attention to that fine Print. Books from Kobo are useless unless you own their proprietary device or you wanna read it on your web interface.

Your Favorite Weird Game- Time To Talk About the Weirdest RPGs You Know!

I recall the rules being weird (though the weird of 30 years ago might not be as weird today) but serviceable. And several core concepts had mechanical tie-ins as well, like the "keys" which tied you to you former humanity also gave you the power to face the threats. They were powerful tool and...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

I imagine it's because her works retroactively mean nothing to him. He's redacted her contribution and now just wants to pile more disrespect on, because disrespect is all he has to give.

D&D 5E (2014) Tell me about some non-core/3rd party Druid Circles

I can't find it... but there was a product I read that had the Circle of the Furies (or something close to that). It posited a druid who represented nature's fury. This druid traded her Wildshape ability for a Stormshape ability with increasing utility at higher levels. She also traded away the...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Valid. But I'll find some way to be nice to other people and blame Just Lasagna for it.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

I'm between jobs RN but I'm making a list. Every person Just Lasagna (he's forfeited his right to his name IMO) slurs or threatens... I'm going to buy something from if they have something to sell.

There's a way to lessen this feeling. Show 20 posts per page. I'm only on page 472, and therefore am half as surprised as you.

    Single System Monogamy

I am Monogamous. But... you drift apart... you learn things, begin to see the imperfections. Eventually you realize you need more. You break up, and spend a while trying out new things. And then... you fall for one... and they consume your whole being. And like that, you're exclusive again...

    Terrible sequels

Of all the ones already said, Godfather 3 had to be the longest drop. Godfather was amazing. Half of Godfather 2 was even better. The other half... still good. Godfather 3... huge disappointment. For mine, Die Hard 4 & 5. 4 was a case of big fall. 3 ("with a vengeance") was the height, and 4...

Your Favorite Weird Game- Time To Talk About the Weirdest RPGs You Know!

Perhaps I didn't make my point as well as I'd hoped. (And sorry for the late reply; only just came across this thread again.) I know GMs make a lot of choices. My point was the rules of Everway was the first time I saw (and one of the few) to make those GM choices an explicit part of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Snow-Sweeping/Clearing Cantrip

I always call for a check for any non-standard use of magic. Especially used to shortcut something you could just do manually. If it's not a spell or power, but still magic, it's a skill check, with a DC commensurate to the goal. Ditto for a spell where you're trying to a related but not RAW...

    D&D 5E (2014) Snow-Sweeping/Clearing Cantrip

I agree with the one who sets off airport metal detectors. Of the options presented, Shape Water. That said, as a GM, I might just ask for an Arcana check (or Nature because Druid?) and allow a simple effect to sweep the snow aside. It'd be a pretty simple check, and you'd need concentration...

    D&D General Your best pets

In a downtime session, a player wanted a pet, and the others wanted on that cart. I asked my daughter for something they could find that comes in litters, and isn't a cat or a dog. "Dire Squirrels." So that's how that crew came to have freshly weaned, only slightly carnivorous, Dire Squirrels...

Your Favorite Weird Game- Time To Talk About the Weirdest RPGs You Know!

I never thought Everway was weird. I still don't think the setting is terribly unusual. But the mechanics... I can see it. The author was trying something, a game where trust in the GM was a vital part of resolution. The mechanics as written explicitly require the GM to make a lot of decisions...

Your Favorite Weird Game- Time To Talk About the Weirdest RPGs You Know!

This was too weird for me. We played it for one session, and never went back. I grew up so steeped in cartoons and it's never occured to me to think Toon was weird. :p I once played a large talking rock. Rocky Balboulder No-one mentioned my personal favorite Weird. Tales from the Floating...
