    Mages vs Clerics

It's a Jedi mind trick! The psions will rule us all!

    Mages vs Clerics

Except with the right Domains a Cleric has access to Time Stop too... oh and has access to nearly any spell the Wizard has up to 5th-level (Greater Any Spell). Again, it's a counter-preparation war. And one of initiative. P.S. Mind you, I'm not saying the Cleric will trump the Wizard. It could...

    Mages vs Clerics

We don't have arena fights. The exact conditions of the battle wasn't specified in the topic. But at the end of the day, the Cleric can pick up the Suffering Domain and have access to Enervation as a Domain spell and perform the same combo.

    Mages vs Clerics

I'd go for Disjunction not because it'll rupture his gear but because it's an automatic dispel magic on his buffs. A Cleric doesn't need to kill a spellcaster with his gear -- his spells are sufficient. The problem too is that the spellcasters will enter the fight with buffs on. The winner...

    Mages vs Clerics

Again, for me, it comes down to initiative: I have 1st-round killing combos for each: Wizard: A Quickened, Split Ray, Maximixed (via Greater Rod of Maximization) Enervation (8 negative levels) followed by a Split Ray, Twin Spell, Maximized (Rod) of Enervation (16 negative levels). Of course it...

    Mages vs Clerics

At the end of the day, the problem isn't a battle of spells: it's the cherry on top that hurts. For example, the Druid essentially has Polymorph that lasts 1 hour/level so he can cast spells and be in animal/elemental form while he's at it, providing him with good physical offense and defense...

Are there rules for younger characters?

    (newborns to age 11): –3 Str, –1 Dex, –3 Con, –1 Int, –1 Wis, –1 Cha.

A way to balance the greataxe with the greatsword

2d6 averages 7, 1d12 averages as 6.5 -- overall an almost negligible difference. The Greatsword has a 19-20/x2 threat range while the Greataxe has x3 -- a fair trade as far as I'm concerned.

Ever had a player in your group throw a tantrum or worse? Most uncomfortable moment?

I was playing a Cleric at the time and the party Rogue found a trap. He was hesistant to spring it though (high DC? low ranks in the skill?) and so I got into a discussion with another player (I forgot what he was playing, I think it was a Barbarian) on who should "tank" it and spring the trap...

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

My take on the Dragon Disciple is that it's more of a warrior class than dabbled in magic or a magic class that dabbles in fighting (at least at epic levels). I mean at epic levels, I could be Sorcerer 20/Dragon Disciple 10 and still have access to the same level of spells albeit a bit tougher...

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

I agree that our discussion has slightly gone beyond the topic. I just have 3 points however: 1) Dracomeander said it best: "It is not the classes as presented that are broken. It is the intentions of the players that break the classes." 2) The classes are meant to operate as a group and not...

    Feat to Use Oversized Weapons?

There's also a Heritage (Storm Giant?) bloodline (Titan) in Unearthed Arcana which eventually lets you wield an oversize weapon.

    Spellbook piracy: is it theft?

Before we begin, we must ask the question whether the owner of the spellbook allowed it to be copied. If yes, then no. If not, let's move on. First off, it might be legal (in the sense that there aren't any city/plane laws that cover it) but just because it's so doesn't mean the spellbook owner...

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

So what's not allowed aside from Polymorph? I assume throwing in Wraithstrike for good measure. Well the link to the build I posted earlier doesn't use Polymorph (because the Polymorph rules require lots of modification to the character sheet). From the PHB, low-level buffs are mirror image...

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

First off, it was pointed out sooner because you were talking about the Eldritch Knight. Is the Eldritch Knight broken? We don't think so. Is the Abjurant Champion broken? Arguably so (although I put it with qualification -- a Wiz 10 who takes Abjurant Champion 5 is getting more mileage out of...

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

Actually instead of making "proficient with one martial weapon" you could make it "proficient with all martial weapons". Or you could just lose the spellcasting ability at 1st-level and it wouldn't be so bad. On a side note, Duskblade and Hexblade (assuming their spell list has an abjuration...

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

It becomes less effective since BAB progresses at half the normal rate (i.e. odd-levels after 20th).

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

Uh, you're still suffering XP penalties for the Ninja 3/Fighter 1 levels. It could be Ninja 2/Fighter 2...

Warrior-Mage Prestige Classes: which are viable & which are not

There is one thing mitigating Abjurant Champion from the non warrior-mages (gish!) out there: qualifying for it. For a Gish, qualifying for Abjurant Champion can be done in six levels. For a straight Wizard, however, you'd need at least ten levels to meet the BAB +5 prerequisites. And the fact...
