I like the lighter tone that the 5e Planescape represents. A blood can really use a good silly laugh about every now and then.

Look, I love Kobold Press products, and I particularly love the Southlands book, but I don’t think the comparison with this WoTC book is fair. They’re trying to do completely different things, and appealing to very different audiences. I think Southlands is a masterpiece of a campaign setting...

I like all the different races in the game, and the different class combinations I can make with them. As a Black man, if I wanna be a skinny golden skinned elven lady, I can! And no shame in doing so!

I love love love reading through the 2nd Edition lore books for Planescape. Love it. But I would have no real idea how to put it on the table if there weren’t published adventures.

I have never had a problem downloading anything from DTRPG. Last night I bought two Planescape books, I didn’t have a problem at all like you describe. Reading them on my iPad books app like I always do.

I just want a dedicated archer. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.

I’m not really interested in arguing about this, but the earliest DnD has, in my opinion, demonstrably clearer influences from the authors I listed than Tolkien. Perhaps not in races, but in regards to tone, objectives, and overall philosophy of the game.

This simply isn’t true. Tolkien was one influence among many. Lieber, Vance, Smith, Wellman, and above all Howard (among many others) have demonstrable influences on DnD, far more than Tolkien.

It brings me great satisfaction that WoTC has thrown all pretense out the window and is marketing straight for the furry demographic.
