What Geek Media Do You Refuse To Partake In?

I'll at least try almost anything. . . so I can't think of anything at the moment that I wouldn't try. There are a couple of things I literally have never tried - like I have literally never seen even a minute of any Dr. Who - but not because I refuse, just haven't gotten around to it or met...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

TFW when the temp has gone up 23 degrees since this morning when I took my daughter to daycare, but it still hasn't hit 20 degrees (F).

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This reminds me of when I taught at NYU and I would explain the assignment for next class and ask if there were any questions, there would inevitably be none. Until class was actually over and I needed to run to teach my next class. Then half the class would be lined up to. . . You guessed it...

How Complex Do You Prefer Your TTRPG Systems In General

Ha! I was thinking that Level Up was TOO complex for what I want, but I certainly cribbed from it.

How Complex Do You Prefer Your TTRPG Systems In General

For a FRPG, I want slightly more complex than 5E but a lot less complex than 3.xE - which is what I tried to do with my homebrew 5E ruleset. I don't mind a 300-page rulebook as long as most of that is reference material (spells, feats, etc) and not something you must know all of in order to...

    Does anyone have Kickstarter regrets?

I was really disappointed with the first Next Level Minis kickstarter. The minis were mostly nice sculpts but the scale was a lot smaller than standard for the size advertised and smaller than they looked in how they were rendered in the campaign materials. Ultimately I was able to salvage a...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

Nope. Nope. You're right. I'm wrong. I blame a morning of shoveling snow before I had my coffee. I have no idea how I got that number. I somehow thought 100 minutes instead of 100 rounds. I guess, I have played too many different editions of D&D with different round lengths. o_O

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+] (Full & Revised ToC now included)

I have been prepping pre-gens for a playtest we have coming up and it is helping me find so many inconsistencies as I build characters!

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+] (Full & Revised ToC now included)

one thing I like about doing this project is being able to organize things how I like, for example I am putting a prominent sidebar in the Rogue Class chapter about how picking locks and disarming traps work, so it is clear and not buried in two other places.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

In the dungeon my in-person group is currently in that’d be 10 wandering encounter checks. 🤷🏽‍♂️ And where my online game currently is that’d be 5

The news just gets worse and worse. I thought I had a gotcha, but the deplorables that understand nothing win again. 😢

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

If they are putting the Magician’s Nephew first (the worst news I have heard in a year of bad news- at least in terms of how it hurts my soul), then why don’t they put the Horse and His Boy second since it technically takes place before Prince Caspian.

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

Definitely a style difference because as DM ( and my preference as a player) is to not concern myself with a story and how it plays out. For me the story is what we talk about what happened afterwards and what I like about D&D is how things might/often happen that would never happen in a story...

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

The thing I always say is that I don't "let" the PCs take a long rest. I describe the environment in which they might be considering to take a long rest or they might describe an environment they are looking for to take said rest (this assumes out in the wilderness/dungeon/ruins, though it could...

D&D General What would you do? (Example from my game)

Heh. In one of the games I run, the 5th level paladin still uses chainmail because he can't afford better right now, nor have the party traveled anywhere where plate mail would be available to buy even if he could. 🤷‍♂️

D&D General The "Ease of Long Rests" as a metric for describing campaigns / DM styles?

I chose 4, because when it is hard, it is hard. For example, in a current game's most recent sessions, the party had to force march to find what they hoped was a decent place to camp for the night in some haunted fey woods and ended up having their rest interrupted twice (but managed a short...
