Dungeons & Dragons Playtests Four New Mystic-Themed Subclasses

Subclass of warlock. There's very little chance of getting an actual binder class. So, any binder for 5e from WotC is going to have to leverage existing classes and Warlocks are the obvious choice. The point upthread about the body horror element was such a huge part of Binders. Binders were...

Dungeons & Dragons Playtests Four New Mystic-Themed Subclasses

Just spit balling, but, my version of a Binder Warlock would leverage invocations. You bind a vestige and get X number of invocations depending on the level of the warlock. Add in maybe some ribbon bonuses with binding - skill bonuses, movement bonuses, that sort of thing, and you've got a...

Dungeons & Dragons Playtests Four New Mystic-Themed Subclasses

That's probably true. Sad but true. Like I said, the Binder is my absolute favorite class. I only ever got to play it once, back in the 3e days, and I adored the class. So, to see it lobotomized like this is just so disappointing.

Dungeons & Dragons Playtests Four New Mystic-Themed Subclasses

But, here's the thing. Binder's were absolutely nothing like druids. They shared nothing. So, making a warlock subclass that's pretty much carbon copy of a druid subclass and then calling it a binder is not really hitting the mark of what a binder is. A binder is someone who draws from the...

Dungeons & Dragons Playtests Four New Mystic-Themed Subclasses

This. Exactly this. That was the point of the class. A highly versatile class where you picked from a menu of powers to use for the day (or whatever period). You were never great at anything - but, it really was the best (IMO) Jack of All Trades class. Mage Hand Press has a FANTASTIC...

Agreed. And, the vestiges were exactly that - vestiges. They were echoes of incredibly powerful beings but, not actual beings in their own right. But, the big part of Binders is that you accessed ALL the vestiges and the vestige that you accessed at a given time changed how your character...

Yup. This is a very sad version of a Binder that has zero flavor.

D&D General Non-Generic Core Classes and Races

I've been jonesing for a campaign if I can get the players to go for it inspired by the Wandering Village video game. The World is dying. The goddess of the world is riddled with cancers that are slowly killing her. Your village rides atop her last avatar, an enormous beast that wanders the...

    D&D General Best D&D Setting?

Again, I have to say that there isn't really a "best" setting that will be best in all situations. After all, an intrigue, mystery based campaign isn't really what, say, Dark Sun is meant for. Not that you can't do it, but, it's not really what Dark Sun is about. If you're doing a sort of...

    D&D General Best D&D Setting?

Yeah, I do think that it will really matter on what kind of experience you are looking for. Bog standard faux Europe D&D? Sword Coast. Something more specific? That's going to need more information.

Spoilers The War Between the Land and the Sea (spoilers)

I rather enjoyed that. Was it a war? Meh, don't care. I'm not about to get terribly fussy about titles. Acting and story were both pretty good. Yeah, there's some plot holes- not checking the ambassador's globe/bomb, not watching Barclay more in the hotel. I mean, seriously, one guard at...

D&D General D&D Dungeon Map Design: Good and Bad

Space is really the issue. There's just only so much page count. I remember back when Paizo was first doing their AP's in Dungeon and every month they'd put out a pdf of the maps. A web-enhancement map pack would be absolutely perfect for a lot of the AP's. Then again, for the AP's, there's...

D&D General D&D Dungeon Map Design: Good and Bad

Again, you have to remember though, for some of us, maps are meant to be played on. They are not meant solely for the DM. Which means locations of NPC starting points (not carved in stone, but, just the likely spots) is really useful. I mean, good grief, most room descriptions include the...
