D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

I was noodling over this thread and something occured to me. Imagine a thought experiment. You have two potential DM's that you are possibly going to play with and you have to choose one. Both have about 10 years of experience running games. DM 1 proudly proclaims that they have only ever...

I would say so, yes. If nothing else, watching other DM's helps to become a better DM yourself. Whether it's learning from the great stuff they do or the bad. DM's need to get out from behind their screens from time to time. Again, IMO and IME and all that.

    D&D 5E (2024) Preferences in a New Official 5.5e Specific Setting

Oh, that would make me SOOOO happy. I realized that Primeval Thule is exactly what I want. The area is small, self contained with diverse habitats. The whole area is about 1500 miles in diameter (a bit less north to south). This is exactly the kind of setting I want. I am so sad that it got...

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Wow. This was already resolved a couple of pages back. But, just to repeat, one more time: THE OPPOSITE OF BETTER IS NOT BAD. I know that this is a basic English definition, but, it seems like there's been a rather fundamental breakdown of communication. Every professional baseball player...

    Being worse =/= being bad.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

No. This is your interpretation of what I have said, but, it is not what I actually said. I said you will be a BETTER DM if you play other games. Not that you cannot be a good DM. The opposite of BETTER is not bad. You can be a perfectly good driver without learning to drive other cars or...

D&D General AI Art for D&D: Experiments

Reread the OP. That's why. Wow, I went through the first couple of pages of this thread from 2 years ago, and then the last couple of pages. Good grief, it's astonishing how fast this improved.

Heh. I probably rose a bit. I'm very very bad at not taking the bait. :D 🐟🐟🐟🪤

Sure? Happy to oblige. NOt really sure how you got "now" considering that I had clarified the point repeatedly, even within the post that was quoted out of context. 🤷 But, hey, whatever floats your boat. We are finally communicating clearly and that's all that matters.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Yup. when you cherry pick quotations out of context, you really can make them say anything. Particularly when you ignore the fifteen subsequent posts that further clarify a point. 🤷 On the other hand, the opposite of "better" is not "bad". You can be a better player (which is honestly what...

Again, this is entirely on you and has absolutely no relation to anything anyone here

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Like so many times on En World, i remain absolutely baffled by the push back against basic points that I would have thought are more or less self evident.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

If nothing else, driving a semi would mean that you could back up and park a car a LOT better. If you can parallel park a semi or back a trailer into a small space with minimal clearance, it gets a LOT easier to back up and park a car. As someone who had to learn to park a tank, I can honestly...

That's an interpretation that you've added that no one else has stated. That's all you.

Huh? Since when is it impossible to play a different game for a couple of weeks once a year? Talk about strawmen.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

That is not even remotely the argument and if that's your interpretation of what's being said, that's on you. The argument is, broadening your experiences will improve your DMing. I cannot believe that this is a particularly contentious position to take.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

You absolutely SHOULD do any or all of these things. But, why are you claiming that it's an "instead" and not "and". It's not like it's impossible to do more than one thing. I highly recommend that everyone does at least a couple of those things every year. No one is making any sort of...

And I truly believe the reverse is equally true. Forever players really, really need to step behind the screen at least once to see how the sausage is made.

D&D General A Rant: DMing is not hard.

Honestly is mostly that I detest the scut work of developing adventures - picking monsters, making sure stat blocks are correct, picking maps, picking art, actually writing the adventure, etc. I do not enjoy that for more than a short while. So, adapting AP's and modules has been my go to for...
