ZEITGEIST #4: Always on Time (4E)

The cover image for this one was my favourite of all of the Zeitgeist preview images. We haven't started Digging for Lies yet, but I'm really looking forward to Always on Time.

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Cool. I'll keep Quital and tinker with the encounter a little bit so it's a satisfactory capstone (at least as hard as the manor encounter) without being overwhelming.

Gears of Revolution: Notes on my campaign

My party also saved Nevard, and this is pretty much what I'm planning to do with him. I may have him die between Skyseer and Lies. He'll be happy to receive Nilasa's canary amulet from them, which they just obtained from Dr von Recklinghausen. I like the idea of a large funeral for Nevard's...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Weeknight sessions are shorter, but we had some interesting developments. Session Notes Disappointed that the flayed jaguars couldn't be used to track, the constables got on their carriage and set off in pursuit of Creed and Macbannin. They were able to track the pair's horse down the hill...

Still one make-or-break issue for me...

I believe so, although I haven't used it myself. Same for using something like Power2ool that links to the Compendium database. * I have a strong preference for the online 4E Compendium over any sort of traditional reference document, whether book or PDF. I'm willing to pay a subscription fee...

ZEITGEIST Help with future plotlines - ZEITGEIST **SPOLIERS**

I don't think it's necessarily too much, since it sounds like there's enough space between the PCs' backstories that they likely won't all show up in the same adventure.

Daily Powers don't belong on the Fighter

This. HP aren't a literal simulation of physical reality either. Can a 10th level fighter really take that many more full sword hits before dropping? Or does high HP actually mean you're better at almost dodging out of the way and taking less of the brunt of a hit each time? Stuff like healing...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

I love this idea. :D My players won't do it, of course. So I'm thinking I'll take your idea of Macbannin and Creed entering the Bleak Gate through a differently-keyed portal -- which the PCs can't follow them through -- and then returning for A Weight of Crumbling Stone.

Still one make-or-break issue for me...

You can make 4E characters in HeroLab, too. I use MapTool in my 4E Zeitgeist game. GSL doesn't imply no 3PP support at all. The OGL created a few problems for WotC, most notably the fact that they now have to compete with the previous edition of their own game, as adapted and published by...

    Maps in the Meanwhile

Those maps look pretty good. I like the art style, and it would be nice to have some spare maps in the event of unplanned encounters in Zeitgeist.

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

The flexibility of the adventure design has served me very well when figuring out how to respond to my PCs doing things out of the "expected" order. Nicely done on your part as well. :) One thing that rolling a single d20 in the mansion encounter does have going for it is that you end up...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Yeah, you actually mention that in the adventure text, but figured I'd at least give them a chance at it. With the Grifoni's HP, it was unlikely that it would be holed, and it didn't end up happening. When they were deliberating the ramming, we determined that they had saved the Water...

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

If the plan for D&DN is to present simple options in the core and then more complex options as optional modules, fixed HP per level should be what's in the core, and the random method should be in a module.

Quick question: does the prohibition on online play affect your playtest?

I would definitely have tested them online. I'm not sure if my live group will be interested.

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Session Notes On the Grifoni, Reginald participated in the meet & greet with the smugglers. When Captain Feldman had his crew produce a hefty chest filled with platinum, Reginald pulled an illusory pouch out of his jacket with a slit in the bottom, then pretended to look shocked as though his...

Gears of Revolution: Notes on my campaign

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with Falkus here. I'd say Macbannin still has someone arrange the attack on Nevard -- this could be another opportunity to use Doro again, on the thinking that Nicodemus himself comes to view Nevard as a threat after Nevard's night atop Cauldron Hill. Once Creed...

Reginald successfully bluffed Blander into thinking he was replacing Nilasa in their scheme! So Blander and Danisca agreed to proceed as originally planned, with Blander and Reginald going to the rendezvous with the smugglers. Meanwhile, the other constables hid their boat offshore and waited...

    ZEITGEIST Resurrection at Zeitgeist

I don't intend for resurrection to be available to the PCs early on. I'll reevaluate in Paragon tier, probably.

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Finally had another session last night, but it was shortened when one player's internet died and she couldn't get back online to join the hangout. For other online DMs, there's a new plugin for Google+ called Tabletop Forge that integrates basic tabletop RPG functionality into Google+...
