    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Subclasses

I remember when Essentials came out and introduced subclasses to 4E that were very different from the build options we'd had before, some people (myself included) complained. WotC responded that their data showed that the overwhelming majority of players (IIRC) wanted to play one of the "core...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

I've only had 3 days off in April, so we didn't get another session in until Wednesday, and the session just covered the Planar Trails segment. I warned the players up-front that I was pretty wiped and probably wouldn't be providing a lot of colour, but we went with it anyway. Session Notes...

ZEITGEIST Tales of the RHC Irregulars [Zeitgeist spoilers through Always on Time]

That is AWESOME. Love the singing. It's great that you've got such a cool group. :)

Struggling with Swordmage //Questions about monster

I don't find it confusing. The "attacks that do not include you as a target" language is there to cover area attacks that associate a single attack roll with multiple targets. Your "tied to one damage roll" rule of thumb ends up working the same way in practice.

Struggling with Swordmage //Questions about monster

We also play it by strict RAW -- each attack roll is an attack, the mark penalty applies to all of them, and the defender's punishment can trigger on any of them. This gives the defender the option to react to any one of the attacks that doesn't include them (since, as others have noted, you can...

ZEITGEIST Tales of the RHC Irregulars [Zeitgeist spoilers through Always on Time]

Yeah, the equivalent in 4E is insubstantial, and insubstantial creatures still take half damage.

ZEITGEIST Tales of the RHC Irregulars [Zeitgeist spoilers through Always on Time]

You did put in that she crashes his wedding and either sinks his boat with him on it or gives them a cool gift, depending on the Vekeshi Mystic PC's actions. However, I actually didn't realize that you intended that to be the order she got from the Vekeshi -- I thought it was just part of her...

What is the Highest Level You Have Reached From Level 1?

I had a 2E wizard get to level 8, and a 3E wizard get to level 7 or 8. In 4E, my swordmage|warden hybrid just multiclassed into wizard at level 21. Soon we'll be headed to the Fortress of Conclusion to confront Acererak or die trying...

    Obsidian Portal or Epic Words?

The DM needs a paid account to enable cloud sharing, but as far as I know the players' accounts can be free. There's web sharing as well, but I'm not sure if it's public web sharing or only open to campaign participants.

    Obsidian Portal or Epic Words?

I'm currently using Obsidian Portal, but I'm not really thrilled with it. There's no autolinking, so I have to remember syntax -- which differs depending on whether I'm linking a character from the character list or a character page in the wiki. I find the interface for file management fairly...

The Exploits of Javelin Company, RHC Flint Chapter [Starting Cauldron Born!]

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the MapTool campaign file thing yet. I'm working 12 hour days at the moment and it's hard to find time for much of anything. I'll make sure to save adventure instances in the future for others to use, though, so my rainbow puzzle prep work for adventure 3...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

The constables did manage to escape the ziggurat with no deaths. They did open the door to the rainbow room, so they at least saw the puzzle (and as I predicted, immediately grasped the solution). Not wanting to battle their way through the room as the toxic flood approached, though, they closed...

ZEITGEIST Tales of the RHC Irregulars [Zeitgeist spoilers through Always on Time]

I've read some of your story already on Ars, but the rust monster bit was just as hilarious the second time around. :D

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Last night, the constables reached Area 10: the seal room. They proceeded somewhat cautiously, intentionally triggering the spear traps and then trying to grab the spears from the mummies and stab them through the spear holes. When they got to Area 10, they lifted up the carpet and found the...

How many people subscribe to D&D stuff?

I find this really interesting -- I'm the exact opposite. I have a lot less interest in reading Dungeon and Dragon articles now that I have to hunt for them in a single compilation. Previously I used to just download the 1-2 articles that interested me each month or two. * I hope D&DI was at...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Second session in the ziggurat on Friday went much better. I was a lot more descriptive about the traps, and while the players still didn't think to try any non-skill check interactions with the traps, I think that's okay -- they did describe their skill checks in world terms, and sooner or...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Short session last night due to technical difficulties. The players explored the camp, then (finally) entered the ziggurat. Murdok immediately used a grappling hook and rope to snag one of the golden chains from the ceiling carvings, but was disappointed that doing so didn't trigger anything...

War of the Burning Sky: Crystin and Haddin

My party left Torrent at Gate Pass, albeit partly at my behest since I'm not a big fan of having NPCs travel with the players. Amusingly, though, they ended up picking up Haddin and Crystin. I've mainly used them as an opportunity for RP; one of the PCs had a disagereement with Haddin, so Haddin...
