    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

I haven't figured out the math yet, but can anyone determine what the DPR of a monk would be if they only used Stunning Strike one per round and only used Flurry of Blows if the Stunning Strike landed? So a 12th level monk would attack twice, if at least one hit he would try Stunning Strike. If...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

I am not going to try to quote that very long post, but off the top of my head there are several glaring flaws with your arguments. I have never, in my 40 years of playing various fantasy RPGs, had a party that didn't have at least one character that used a shield. They are as common as dirt...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I missing something with Favored Foe?

What I did was add a feature called "off-hand attack". If you take the two-weapon fighting style you can take an extra attack with your second weapon as an off-hand attack and it does not require a bonus action. If you don't have the fighting style it still requires a bonus action. Likewise the...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I missing something with Favored Foe?

That just seems incredibly wasteful. I mean, sure, an extra 3-4 damage, 3 times a day isn't nothing, but it is pretty close to nothing. Especially since it should last a whole combat and add (assuming just 4 rounds of combat) 14 damage, 3 times a day. Which is moderately better, but unlikely to...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I missing something with Favored Foe?

For my own house rule I just allow Favored Foe to add damage to all attacks. After 5th level "all attacks" means 2, unless you are two-weapon fighting, then it is 3. Hardly overpowering. Also remember this is for one target only, if that target goes down, or you just decide to attack someone...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

Okay. I thought about it and you are thinking of the bladesinger casting mage armor (+3), a + 5 Int, +4 Dex (how are you getting this with point buy? Am I missing something?) and casting shield (+5, but only for one round). 10+3+5+4+5=27. With the bracers that would push them up to 29. But that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

A bladesinger can wear light armor. +1 studded leather is rare, requires no attunement and adds +3 to the bladesingers AC. I don't see how Bracers of Defense is better than this. Or heck, just wear regular studded leather armor for the exact same benefit.

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

A +1 AC seems hardly worth it. Honestly I was considering making it a +5 AC for one extra ki point making it equivalent to the Shield spell, but didn't want to create yet another ability that cost ki so lowered it to +3 and just added it to the existing Dodge action. Another reason why I don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

A very fair argument. I overlooked that they require attunement. It is weird that the Cloak or Protection is uncommon while the Ring of Protection is rare, even though they do the exact same thing. Looking at armor +1 is rare, +2 is very rare and +3 is legendary. So making Bracers of Armor rare...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

Hmmm... I guess it would be a... limitation? It means that a monk gets no more benefit from a magic weapon than a barbarian, paladin or ranger and they all get less benefit than the fighter. They all get two attacks with their magic weapon. After 11th level the fighter gets more. After giving...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

One of the problems a monk has is that the Martial Arts attack or Flurry of Blows must be unarmed attacks. So no matter how awesome the weapon you have, you don't get the benefit of it other than the two you get with Extra Attack at 5th level. Something like Hex and Hunter's Mark would be great...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

Curiosity got the better of me and I tried my hand at some DPR math. It includes the crit chance, but I didn't do two-weapon fighting for the rogue and I hadn't figured out how to add Advantage yet (in the case of Steady Aim). Rogue 15 +1 dagger, +11 to hit, 1d4+6+8d6 avg. 27.375 +3 rapier, +13...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

Who is doing more DPR with a +1 dagger? I guess a rogue? I haven't done the math, but I think a +3 staff with an extra 10d6 force damage per day in the hands of a level 15 monk can out DPS even a level 15 rogue with a +1 dagger. You save the extra d6s for a crit of course. And that wasn't my...

Also hill dwarf. High or wood elf even without Tasha's, and the wood elf adds +1 to Wis. I think that is about it.

D&D 5E (2014) What Single Thing Would You Eliminate

Actually I don't want people to sit out for the rest of the combat, that isn't fun. But I do want there to be some challenge and urgency to bringing a fallen character back up. If you have to move into touch range and use a regular action to cast Cure Wounds there is measurable cost that is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

There has been arguments here that Monks don't get magic items like other classes do, and some examples are given, but the obvious ones seem to be left out. First, Rings or Cloaks of Protection are good for everyone, and good for Monks no less, but Bracers of Defense are great for a Monk above...

D&D 5E (2014) What Single Thing Would You Add

Weapon descriptions in the PHB. Here's a challenge: Go into the PHB and find what a Breastplate is. Then look for a description of what a Glaive is. How is it different from a Halberd? Good luck!

D&D 5E (2014) What Single Thing Would You Eliminate

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but my vote would be to get rid of Healing Word. Terrible spell. And by "terrible" I mean: So good it makes the game less fun.

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

I am going to include what Mindra did the night before if that is okay. Sorry for the late homework. ;) Mindra was as uneasy about the truce as the rest of her party. She found herself in doing a different type of scouting that night. She circulated among the villagers trying to read their...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra will move up to the prow of the ship holding her shortbow casually at her side. She scans the dock and palisade to see if she can spot anything amiss. Perception: 1D20+8 = [15]+8 = 23
