    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

This is what Hide says: On a successful check, you have the Invisible condition. Make note of your check’s total, which is the DC for a creature to find you with a Wisdom (Perception) check. As for Search, here is what it says: You're still taking the Search action outside combat, but there...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Search is really a player-facing combat action specific for conducting an Active Perception check, but the Hide rules only say to do a Perception check, and the DM can use Passive Perception instead to speed up combat. However, outside of combat the DM can just call for a PC to do a Perception...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Oh, we're pretty sure the guy is fudging rolls a few times per session, but we can't prove it since we play online. At this point, it's become a meme at this table. And that's exactly what I mean by "by any means": making min-max PCs with as much advantages as possible by stepping on other...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Line of sight is in the 2024 DMG (p.45) as quoted on page 7 of this thread, which btw were also in the DMG back in 2014 (p.251). The definition is the same in both books. Line of sight was never a PHB thing. Also, depends on the situation if 3/4 cover breaks line of sight; this is a DM's call...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Am I? The Hide action says: "Make note of your check’s total, which is the DC for a creature to find you with a Wisdom (Perception) check." All I did was apply that in both cases. Page 19 also says: "The Dungeon Master decides when circumstances are appropriate for hiding", which gives DMs the...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

There are players out there that think that playing the game means absolutely winning against the big "bad" DM by any means. There's one in one of the tables I play, and it's kinda become a running gag at this point seeing him trying to outsmart the DM despite warnings and failing miserably

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

This is represented by Active (Search) or Passive Perception Checks in combat. Outside combat, the DM still uses stealth checks or can make the call to determine if circumstances allow for hiding based on narrative. That's how I would interpret this using Line of Sight rules in page 45 of the DMG

Removed comment since it was for another post; my bad

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Exactly. In a case like this, they can hide and hold the roll until enemies approach their location, I would then have the PC do the stealth check to see if they're successfully hidden or not. I really do not understand the issue; it's not rocket science

    D&D 5E (2024) New Constructs, Plants, Beasts & Humanoids | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

Yep, there are all sorts of ways you could skin this cat. All you need is some creativity and flexibility with the guidelines already provided

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

Well, the FRAG UA was for setting specific subclasses, and FRAG is split into a player guide and DM guide, so there will definitely be Backgrounds in the player book. How distinct they are from the core books is debatable. Also, by having two setting books there is a higher chance of including...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

There is also the fact that by 2024 standards, most of the fights presented by the OP were severely under the low XP budget for the party size. That just made it worse

    D&D 5E (2024) New Constructs, Plants, Beasts & Humanoids | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

Still, you should use the custom monster rules as the MM indicates on its first page. So, taking the previously mentioned Adrenaline Rush, you can add it to the monster and remove the THP component; after all, thats what the old Aggressive trait was.

Honestly, that thread needs to be closed; it long stopped being about Orcs

    D&D 5E (2024) New Constructs, Plants, Beasts & Humanoids | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

The video kinda implies that there are other settings books planned. Whether they are for existing or new settings is unknown

    D&D 5E (2024) New Constructs, Plants, Beasts & Humanoids | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

Obviously; that's what some are complaining about. That doesn't change that you can compare the old 2014 version when it's available in the free rules. Yes he said so, but I am specifically referencing the blocks in the conversion table. The DMG rules do provide enough advice to be able to...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Constructs, Plants, Beasts & Humanoids | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

Does it? A Drow is a CR 1/4 creature, and the conversion is the Priest Acolyte, a CR 1/4 creature. Adding Dancing Lights and Darkness makes absolutely no change when it can already cast Bless, except give it more options. Do the same for the Orc vs Tough and you get similar results if you add...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Constructs, Plants, Beasts & Humanoids | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

I mean, JC straight-out says in the video to use the PHB species traits to make them fit the fantasy. IMO, none of the PHB species traits alter the statblocks significantly enough to change CR in a bad way, so what if that makes it a bit more challenging? I say that's good

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Yeah, except for the 5th encounter, the rest were either under budget or on the low end of the 2024 XP budget from what I see, which you're supposed to maximize per the DMG24. I have to agree with @Oofta that these were too easy and led to the result the OP experienced. Looks to me like the MCDM...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Class Rankings (from nat1gaming.com) for ppl who believe that stuff.

I think this is the first time I've seen someone put the new GOOlock as the lowest Warlock subclass for 2024 when every other analysis it's been a toss-up with the Archfey for the best subclass for Warlockso_O
