What videogames are you playing in 2026?

I haven't played the Avowed re-design yet: what were they aiming for?

So what's the deal with solo gaming?

I don't think that is the factor. After all, we call them roleplaying games, which strongly suggests that roleplaying is a thing independent of the game part. After all, we can roleplay with out therapists and our SOs, with needing dice.

What videogames are you playing in 2026?

I am anti-respawn myself, only because I like feeling like I accomplished something.

So what's the deal with solo gaming?

I don't think so. Inhabiting a character to write them or play them on stage is not the same thing as roleplaying. I think.

What videogames are you playing in 2026?

FYI for anyone looking to play the new Avowed patch: apparently they changed it so the enemies DO respawn now. Some folks seem unhappy about that.

Diablo RPG Kickstarter signup is live

Also, for what it is likely to make moneywise, it just probably is not a real big priority for Blizzard (who even if not actually making the game probably has some pretty stringent review requirements). On the upside, I get the impression that they want it pretty complete before funding, so if...

    What's your perfect movie

This thread is going to suffer from the problem of people confusing "was really important to me at the time" with "good."

So what's the deal with solo gaming?

You still have other people to whom you are responding. Anyway, i do not intend to disparage. I get how folks call this roleplaying. My brother roleplays in Skyrim all the time (by, like you say, making decisions his character would make). My knee jerk is to tie roleplaying strongly to...

    D&D General Rules that weren't...

That's... not how DH works at all.

    D&D General Rules that weren't...

Similar: in Daggerheart, the PCs go in whatever order they want, but if a PC fails a roll, or rolls success with Fear (ie a complication) the spotlight shifts to the GM, who can then activate monsters, environments, whatever. Once the GM is done, the spotlight shifts back to the PCs.

This, too, is a perfect film.

When the last few pages are just 2 posters, the thread is dead.

    D&D General Rules that weren't...

    Essentially the Daggerheart method.

    D&D General Rules that weren't...

What if we got rid of initiative entirely and everyone wrote down their action(s) and then revealed, with everything happening simultaneously and the GM adjudicating the fallout?

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

I really don't think GMs or other players at the table should be auditing one's roleplaying performance.

D&D General Besides Nimble, are there other stripped down versions of 5e...

I think it is interesting that even while there seems to be lots of demand for a simpler, more streamlined, more fun 5E, WotC went the opposite direction with 5E 2024: they added new subsystems and at least partially switched from natural language by the rule-speak.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

While immersion may not be the absolute last thing on the list for me, as far as things that I enjoy about TTRPGs, but it is pretty low. As such, trying to get just the right level of Sling Blade for my 7 Int fighter is not a priority.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

Being smart myself (at least an 11) I left the odd numbers free so that we can slot in whoever you like.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

Maybe some pop culture character benchmarks will help: Int 6: The Hulk Int 8: Kronk Int 10: Buzz Int 12: Woody Int 14: Fox Mulder Int 16: Peter Parker Int 18: Bruce Wayne Int 20: Lex Luthor
