What sort of support do you think that DM's with decades of experience need that they aren't being given?

It's ok, don't trouble yourself. To be honest, I'll probably get more mileage out of your story of your adventures than any official module. I appreciate the offer though. Like I said, it was just a neat idea I may use for inspiration when trying to come up with a low level adventure.

That’s too bad! Those sorts of details are always the most interesting bits about a character’s story, not so much how many servants they randomly rolled.

I’m not trying to enshrine the DM as a dictator. Obviously they need to get the buy-in of the entire group. But I guess I’m just more old-school than I thought. Someone has to create the setting and the game. That requires a certain amount of latitude.

There's a difference between 'no magic items' and 'no boring + items'. I'm not sure anyone is advocating dumping the magic item section. Just that for some of us, interesting magic items are more worthwhile than endless '+1, +2, +3' weapons and armor. And I don't think anyone is seriously...
